Maresca's Leicester strike late to sink West Brom

West Brom

Leicester's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall used his head to score the first goal and then assisted in scoring the second goal during injury time.

The manager of Leicester City, Enzo Maresca, triumphed in his comeback to The Hawthorns when his team defeated his former club, West Bromwich Albion, in the final moments of the game.

In the 71st minute, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who plays in the midfield position for the Foxes, scored the first goal of the game by heading the ball into the net from a cross on the right wing by Wilfred Ndidi.

The Baggies managed to secure a point with Josh Maja's goal in the 89th minute, which appeared to be a bit disorganized but counted as his debut goal for the team.

However, as Albion sought to score the winning goal, there were only four minutes left in the additional time. Suddenly, Dewsbury-Hall sprinted down the left side of the field on a counter-attack and crossed the ball to Harry Winks, who carefully slid the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net just barely inside the right post. This secured a much-needed win for the team, who had only won one of their past four games.

Leicester's lead at the top of the Championship league has increased to four points above Ipswich who have secured the second spot. This occurred before the rest of the matches scheduled for the afternoon.

The Baggies trained by Carlos Corberan had succeeded in winning five out of their last six games. Nevertheless, they were outmatched by the Foxes, whose dominance was evident for most of the match.

The Foxes put on a display of their unyielding title-contending team by leaving some notable players like Jamie Vardy, who had previously scored six goals in five visits to The Hawthorns, unused on the bench. Conor Coady and Harry Souttar also remained as substitutes.

Maresca, who was a young player for Albion for 17 months, left the club in January 2000 to join Juventus for a surprising sum of £4m. This brought relief to the Baggies, as they were in dire need of funds at the time.

Almost 24 years after his last appearance at The Hawthorns, the Italian made a comeback as a manager. However, his visit coincided with another financial setback for the Baggies, who are currently undergoing the process of being sold. Just this week, they announced that they had to take on additional loans, adding to their financial worries.

However, West Bromwich Albion has managed to stay in the competition under their manager Corberan and put up a strong fight against Leicester City.

They came very close to scoring a goal when Cedric Kipre, without realizing it, hit the ball with his left leg and it bounced off the left post after a corner kick.

However, Leicester also struck the frame of the goal when Stephy Mavididi's shot, which was hit with great power, changed direction after hitting Darnell Furlong, then hit the post and went out, resulting in a corner.

Ndidi attempted to score from a difficult position but was thwarted by Albion goalie Alex Palmer. Dewsbury-Hall, who had previously scored two winning goals against Coventry City, once again demonstrated his disdain for teams from the Midlands. He perfectly positioned himself to meet Ndidi's cross and unleashed a powerful header from a closer distance.

Maja boosted the Baggies by scoring and equalizing the game within 14 minutes of entering the field. However, their chance of winning was destroyed by Leicester's breakaway goal that sealed the game.

West Brom has a match next weekend on Saturday, which will start at lunchtime. They will be facing Tony Mowbray's Sunderland, who is a former Baggies boss. The game is scheduled for 12:30 GMT.

Later that day at 3pm (GMT), Leicester is scheduled to play a game against the struggling Plymouth Argyle.

During an interview with BBC Radio WM, Carlos Corberan, the head coach of West Bromwich Albion, made some comments.

It brings me joy when I observe the team putting effort into winning the game.

However, we must make a wiser choice in the current circumstances."

During the match, there were two players, Kyle Bartley and Jed Wallace, who were unable to participate.

We are unsure about the duration of Wallace's absence. Bartley detected discomfort in his hamstring.

According to BBC Radio Leicester, Enzo Maresca, the manager of Leicester City, commented that...

We absolutely earned the victory in the match - and we accomplished it in the optimal manner.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been making progress in his performance during the final third of the game. It was necessary for him to enhance his effectiveness in providing assists and scoring goals.

This is a massive victory! Our goal is to create something greater, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of our overall approach.

The manner in which the players rejoiced with their supporters indicated that. Although, I must maintain a slightly more composed demeanor in my reaction. Nevertheless, I was pleased with the outcome.
