INTERVIEW: Joel Latibeaudiere gives West Brom reaction and speaks captaincy

West Brom

Joel Latibeaudiere gave a truthful evaluation of how City played in their loss against West Brom at The Hawthorns with a score of 2-1.

Once again, Joel led the team as captain, however, he couldn't stop City from losing during their game in the Championship away from home.

After the end of the game, Latibeaudiere shared his thoughts about how the team played against the Baggies.

Looking back at the game...

In the initial half, we were not active enough. We made it difficult for ourselves, but even then, we had opportunities to score.

In the opening half, we had numerous opportunities to score but failed to capitalize. On the other hand, our opponents only had two shots throughout the game, but both of them ended up in the net, leading to their victory.

By the conclusion of the game, their team scored while ours did not. However, throughout the initial half, we were not assertive enough collectively and failed to approach them closely enough.

I had the impression that we weren't working as a united group. During the break, we talked about it and then we returned to the game with a more forceful approach.

In our game, Milan started chasing their fullback, while Bobby spun around and I protected the open area. The situation was similar on the opposite side, with Jay and Binksy doing the same.

During the initial half, we failed to identify the situation and our opponents were able to spot the gaps in our play. However, after consulting with the coaches during halftime, we adapted our strategies and improved our performance significantly in the second half.

The likelihood of the City winning the game...

Yes, it's all about having the confidence and bravado to attempt the shot while having faith in your abilities.

I believe we're not quite there yet when it comes to scoring goals in the opposing team's area, and all we require is a boost in our self-assurance. We only need to find the right opportunity to make this happen.

The other day, we managed to successfully score five impressive goals. With such a feat, we should have felt extremely confident going into the next game with the ability to easily score again. However, for some reason, our confidence was not at its peak and we struggled to score during the current game.

During the latter part of the match, we made some changes. We started to pursue the ball more aggressively and Kasey was able to earn an excellent penalty. Haji then successfully converted the penalty into a goal.

"I am certain that we could have achieved greater results from this situation."

Experimenting with a defensive system that involves three players at the rear...

"That was just to make sure there was enough space, as they prefer playing with costly equipment, and for us to have Callum and Kasey playing in close proximity."

We believed that having both of them as attacking midfielders positioned closely in the box would create numerous difficulties for the opposition.

We didn't start well and were too hesitant. We gave them too much admiration and didn't attack them aggressively.

Approaching the end of the season...

I believe we're down to about the final 12. We're going to have a game at home soon where we absolutely have to secure a victory.

Every team aims to make it to the playoffs and stay in the race for the championship. Therefore, we have several tough opponents to face who rank higher than us.

We have a match scheduled for Tuesday. It is necessary to clean yourself and recover.

Regarding leading the team...

I feel incredibly privileged to have received this opportunity. The manager discussed it with me, and I couldn't be happier, especially since I will be representing a prestigious team like Coventry.

It can be challenging to handle a defeat and assume added responsibility as the captain of the team. However, I am trying my best to deal with it and find my way through. Nevertheless, I am really enjoying the experience.
