Celebrations for St George’s Day take to streets

Parties and festivities in honor of England's patron saint have been happening all over the region.

Today, numerous kids hit the pavements in Gravesend and Dartford to celebrate St. George's Day.

The celebration initiated earlier today by the arts non-profit organization Cohesion Plus.

In the centre of the town of Gravesend, there was a very realistic St George and his dragon mixing with the people.

Furthermore, there was amusement provided through the exhibition of North Indian Dhol performances, traditional musicians, and Morris dancers.

Students holding shields adorned with themes, dragons, and posters participated in the yearly parade across the city.

At midday, there was another procession led by students in Dartford, which also marked the culmination of the festivities.

Over 25 schools took part in the event throughout the two boroughs.

Both occasions concluded with unique flag-raising rituals.

The events were organized in collaboration with the neighboring government officials, the Kent Equality Cohesion Council, and Arts Council England.

More celebrations are scheduled to take place over the upcoming weekend.

This coming Sunday (April 28th), Scout groups all over Kent will participate in parades to celebrate our patron saint.

The yearly procession in Maidstone is scheduled to commence at 1.30pm.

On the day in question, St George's Church will be hosting festivities in conjunction with the Great British Carnival in Ramsgate.

Prior to the occasion, people can attend a no-cost session where they can create costumes at Church Hall located on Broad Street on Saturday.

However, the festivities will not solely involve kids.

Various bars and restaurants are expected to have exclusive discounts and promotions in observance of St. George's Day.

In another location, authorities apprehended six individuals during a celebration for St George's Day in Whitehall earlier today.

Footage shared on social platforms depict chaos erupting and individuals being apprehended by law enforcement officers.
