Sky Brown

You've witnessed Sky Brown flaunting her skateboarding skills, and surfing the waves. Get ready to see her in 2D form.

The athlete who won a medal in the Olympics now has a different appearance.

The spunky teenager, who is 15 years old, is still carrying a board and wearing protective gear like a helmet. She is also clad in her typical brightly colored clothing. However, there is a new element - she has been drawn in pencil and is approximately 10 centimeters in height.

The writer Brown is now introducing a fresh appearance as a figure in her book for kids entitled "The Life-Changing Magic of Skateboarding", which can be ordered starting on March 26. The book features her personal experiences in skateboarding, and she also provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to perform basic tricks in the sport. This is the same activity she competed in as part of Great Britain's team in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Her desire is for the book to encourage individuals to give skateboarding a go and confront their anxieties.

Brown expressed to Olympics.com that she enjoys telling her story and sharing it with others. She also enjoys imparting knowledge and seeing the happiness it brings to those around her. This has always been a source of joy for her, and she believed it was a fun approach to sharing her experiences.

Sky Brown's Journey: Teenage Prodigy To Book Character Through Pencil Drawing

Although a cheerful Sky Brown drawn by hand adorns the front page of a kids' book, the sports star did not have any literature regarding skateboarding occupying her book collection during her upbringing.

She stated that what her parents used to read to her before going to bed were not books about skating.

With a scarcity of skateboarding books for kids, Brown turned to online tutorials to learn more about the sport. Although these tutorials were helpful, Brown wished there was a book she could learn from.

"It would've been awesome if I possessed one," remarked Brown. "I spent several hours on YouTube, observing tutorial videos on how to master this trick, but I believe that reading a book would be a stimulating approach."

The book is completed by her. It's a guide with illustrations and 40 pages. It's included in "The Life-Changing Series" that's published by Magic Cat. There are other guides included in this series such as grandmaster Maurice Ashley's chess guide, Joy Wilson's baking masterclass, and a drumming introduction by 13-year-old musician Nandi Bushell.

In her book titled "The Life-Changing Magic of Skateboarding," Brown tells the story of how she began utilizing a skateboard as a toddler by lying down on it and eventually went on to achieve a bronze medal at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The article highlights her remarkable skills in surfing and dancing, with a vibrant presentation of her triumphant performance on Dancing with the Stars: Juniors.

Making the book was an enjoyable experience, according to Brown. She shared tales about her life which reminded her of everything she has encountered. As it is not something she thinks about often, it was exciting to revisit those memories and now she derives joy from rereading them frequently.

It was a nice surprise for her to witness a portrayal of herself as a character in a book. The picture was crafted by Shaw Davidson using a blend of both conventional and digital drawing skills, just like all the other visuals in the book.

Brown expressed her excitement about seeing the characters that resembled her in a miniature form. She found it really cool that they dressed her up in various outfits, hairstyles and helmets along with other characters that looked adorable to her.

Just like with the written content, Brown personally chose the pictures for the book, picking the clothing and figures that appeared on the pages.

"I received a lot of assistance, but the process was challenging," she stated. "I believe the end result is excellent, and I feel extremely proud of it."

Sky Brown Teaches Skateboard Tricks Like Ollies

Besides providing a vivid summary of Brown's athletic experience up until now, the book also acts as a manual for people who are interested in attempting skateboarding.

Instead of skating at the park, Brown is now writing about it and teaching beginners how to do tricks such as ollies, kickflips, and frontside 180s. She guides her readers through each step.

"I aimed to cover the fundamental aspects of skateboarding," she expressed. "It involves going through various steps gradually. Performing a kickflip is not something you can master right away. You must first acquire an understanding of the ollie, and before that, you need to gain knowledge of other necessary skills. That's why I decided to incorporate the basic principles."

Besides covering the fundamentals of her sports discipline, Brown also adds some excitement to her written works by showcasing some of her personal moves, like the kickflip indy that she flawlessly executed on her third attempt to win the bronze medal during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Brown said that when he shared his life story, he conveyed to others that it was not a smooth ride. Skateboarding is a difficult sport that demands a lot of effort and time. One has to practice and be patient with it.

Overcome Fear: Sky Brown's Inspiring Tale

Sky Brown has bigger goals beyond just getting more people to try skateboarding.

Her ultimate goal is to motivate individuals to confront and overcome their apprehensions.

During a conversation, she mentioned that many of us aspire to do things in life but often let our fears hold us back. She recounted an experience when she used to frequent the skate park alone, and it was usually populated by boys. This situation was a bit daunting, and she admitted feeling intimidated by the bigger boys who would look at her strangely, wondering why she was there. Nevertheless, she encouraged others not to let such things stop them and to pursue the things they want to do unabashedly.

Brown has experienced numerous scary moments in the past, ranging from stepping up on a public stage for a televised dancing competition to confronting the challenging mega ramp with encouraging phrases from skateboarding icon Tony Hawk.

Overcoming fears has become a pivotal motivator for her achievements, and Brown desires to inspire others to encounter this transformative energy, whether it be while skateboarding, dancing, or engaging in any other activities her audience selects.

She expressed that confronting your fears may seem daunting, but it ultimately brings immense satisfaction. The exhilaration of overcoming one's apprehensions is what motivates her. She desires for girls and anyone to confront their fears and experience that same elation. We only have a limited time on this earth, so we must make the most of it by giving it our all and persevering.
