Employers are struggling to find the desired workforce.

Shortage

According to the ManpowerGroup's yearly Talent Shortage Study, employers in Greece are experiencing a globally observable problem where seven out of nine employers have difficulty discovering skilled employees that possess qualities like accountability, analytical thinking, and taking charge.

The results indicate a shortage not just in interpersonal abilities (soft skills) but also in technical competencies like information technology, engineering, and sales. That's why businesses in industries like energy, utilities, IT, and even tourism are recognizing the dearth of skilled individuals.

According to a recent survey conducted on almost 39,000 employers from 41 different countries, the overwhelming majority of employers are having trouble finding qualified professionals in their respective fields. In Greece, 77% of employers report difficulties, which is similar to the global average. However, other countries such as Taiwan, Germany, Hong Kong, Portugal, and Puerto Rico experience even greater challenges, with employers reporting difficulties at rates of 90%, 86%, 85%, 84%, and 83%, respectively.

According to the ManpowerGroup survey, roughly 27% of employers in Greece express a shortage of soft skills such as responsibility, reliability, and discipline amongst potential candidates. Additionally, approximately 26% of employers report difficulty finding individuals who possess critical thinking and analytical skills.

According to a recent study, about a quarter of employers believe that their employees lack skills in leadership and social influence. Another 24% think that their staff lack the initiative to acquire new skills. Finally, 22% believe that there is a deficiency in teamwork and cooperation skills among employees.

A recent survey showed that employers are finding it difficult to find employees with the necessary skills for certain industries. Specifically, the most lacking skills are in IT/data, engineering, human resources, manufacturing/production and sales/marketing. Industries that are facing the greatest problem include energy and utilities, manufacturing, healthcare and communication services. Of these, the energy and utilities sector has the highest shortage with 96% of employers unable to find suitable talent. Other industries with high shortages include industry and construction, health and life sciences, communication services, and information technology. The consumer goods and services (including tourism), finance and real estate, and transport, supply chain and automotive sectors also report shortages, although to a lesser extent.
