Romesh Ranganathan finishes London Marathon in six hours

In a recent London Marathon, Romesh Ranganathan completed the course in six and a half hours with the sole objective of finishing before the roads were reopened.

The 46-year-old funnyman participated in a run on Sunday with the goal of collecting donations for Calm, a mental health organization.

Before the event, he spoke to BBC Sport and expressed his goal of completing the race before the roads open to the public.

"My goal is to achieve that. Once I've accomplished it, I'll consider myself finished."

During the interview with Gabby Logan, he stated that he would be supporting Calm because he has encountered suicidal tendencies.

He mentioned that he was on the verge of ending his own life before and mental health matters are something he is passionate about.

"Calm is an incredible charity that focuses on spreading knowledge and it wasn't just about collecting funds, but also about spreading awareness on their noteworthy work. That's ultimately the reason why I've decided to participate in this run."

Ranganathan, who supports Calm, pledged to donate an equal amount in response to all contributions received. Up to this point, £19,400 has been contributed via Ranganathan's London Marathon website.

He stated that he intends to match any donations he receives. However, he has set a limit to his contribution as he doesn't want to risk losing his home.

Ms. Logan inquired about the limit and wondered whether the value said earlier was a million.

The funny person replied: "I did not utter those words, Gabby."

Before the event, Ranganathan posted a message to his Instagram followers, stating: "I had previously stated that I would never participate in a marathon, yet here I am."

If I didn't receive support during my lowest point, I'm uncertain about where I would have ended up. To be honest, I'm not even sure if I'd still be alive.

Therefore, I aspire to assist in increasing awareness of Calm's essential services and generating a substantial sum of money.

Last February, Ranganathan admitted that he often contemplated the idea of ending his own life.

During his appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast, he revealed to Steven Bartlett, the host, that he had been contemplating suicide frequently, and even had thoughts of it as a daydream.

In my opinion, every comedian has a unique wiring in their brain. They may have experienced something that separated them from the norm in some manner.

The comedian was accompanied by a group of famous people in his run, among them Russ Cook who is famously known as "Hardest Geezer". Russ Cook has just finished running more than 10,100 miles (6,300km) across Africa.

The course was also completed by twenty Members of Parliament and Lords, such as Jeremy Hunt who is the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Matt Hancock, who previously held the position of secretary for health.

Peres Jepchirchir, a Kenyan athlete who won the Olympic championship, has achieved a new world record for women in a race limited to females only. She completed the race in a time of two hours, sixteen minutes, and sixteen seconds.

The male champion of the race was Alexander Munyao, hailing from Kenya, who clocked in a remarkable time of two hours and four minutes.
