Sunderland is on its way to reaching a final agreement with Michael Beale as their next manager.

The Stadium of Light is expected to announce that a person who is 43 years old will take over Tony Mowbray's position soon.

Sunderland have been in talks with several people to potentially fill the vacant position since Mowbray left. One of the contenders, Will Still from Reims, has been mentioned. However, it seems that the club has had progress with Beale and there is speculation that he may attend the game against Bristol City from the spectator area.

Earlier this month, Sunderland and Mowbray ended their working relationship. Mowbray left the team two days after they drew 1-1 with Millwall, resulting in a record of only one win in their previous five games.

Mike Dodds has taken over temporarily and has successfully guided the club to consecutive victories against West Brom and Leeds. These wins have propelled the club to sixth place in the Championship standings. The club is expected to soon appoint Beale as their new coach.

Before his tenure with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, Beale had experience managing QPR in the Championship.

In the summer of 2022, he relocated to west London and managed to guide QPR to the top of the Championship. However, in October of the same year, he declined an opportunity to join Wolves in the Premier League.

After a month, Beale went back to Glasgow. He had previously worked as Steven Gerrard's helper at Rangers when they won the Premiership title in 2020-21. Beale took over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but couldn't get Rangers to finish in the first place. Instead, they came second in a battle against Ange Postecoglou's Celtic.

He was fired after only participating in six league games during the following season. Their ranking was lowered to third in the table after losing 3-1 to Aberdeen. Since departing Ibrox, he hasn't been involved in the sport.

The Sunderland boss, Tony Mowbray, will be replaced by someone chosen by the owner, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, and the sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman. The new manager will be picked specifically to execute their long-term plans for success in Sunderland.

The temporary manager, Dodds, has maintained a good image for himself following the triumphs against West Brom and Leeds. He is set to lead the team once more in their upcoming match at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Prutton's Prediction: Bristol City Vs Sunderland

Things aren't going too well for Liam Manning at the moment. Even though it's still early, he faces a tough task of matching the success of his predecessor, Nigel Pearson, who was very popular at Bristol City. He needs to start delivering results quickly, as the team has only managed to win once in their last six games.

Mike Dodds, Sunderland's temporary manager, has led the team to a successful week. They've scored two victories against notable teams while playing at their home turf, boosting their morale as they head to Ashton Gate. They're poised for an away win.

Forecasts: 1-2 (Sky Bet predictions)
