Talk is cheap as 'genius' Beale pays price at Rangers

Michael Beale

Michael Beale was never really known for being concise during his time at Ibrox. However, the excessive communication that occurred during his tenure did not solely originate from the former Rangers manager.

In the month of April, Neil Banfield, who worked for him as an assistant, made some statements about his boss's supposed talents that would have caused the renowned American showman P.T. Barnum to feel embarrassed. Expressions used by Banfield then and at present still remain incredibly shocking.

Banfield commented that Beale's direction can be easily observed. Banfield also mentioned popular coaches such as Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel, and Mauricio Pochettino. Through Banfield's statement, it is safe to say that Micky Beale is closely following their paths.

His methods of operation, organizational structure of the club and staff management are of superior quality. He possesses outstanding qualities similar to those of Arsene Wenger.

Where do you even start to unravel that? Coaches who have won leagues in Germany, France, and England, as well as a champion of the Champions League and a Club World Cup victor. And what about Michael Beale?

The remarks were made during the weekend when Rangers faced defeat by Aberdeen at Pittodrie. This loss caused Celtic to increase their lead in the Premiership to 13 points, despite it only being nine points at the time Beale joined the team.

Celtic suffered a loss two weeks after defeating Rangers in the league, and one week before defeating them in the Scottish Cup. Beale was a new manager, while Banfield spoke with great confidence despite this.

Dujon Sterling, who joined the Rangers team in July, praised Beale by calling him a "genius". This is the same word that Jermain Defoe used a few years ago to describe him. It is often said that wise people choose to remain silent.

After just 22 matches managing QPR, Beale was appointed as the Rangers' head coach. QPR was in seventh place in the second division of English football at the time he left. Beale reassured the fans that he would remain with the club before his departure.

During his past five matches at QPR, he experienced a total of four defeats (versus Birmingham, West Brom, Huddersfield, and Coventry) and only managed a draw against Norwich. Earlier in the season, he had also suffered losses to Luton, Swansea, Blackpool, Blackburn, and League One Charlton in the EFL Cup.

After securing nine victories, he moved on to Ibrox and took on one of the most demanding roles in British football. The Rangers executives chose him based on his previous experience as Steven Gerrard's assistant, where he was known for being the mastermind behind a strategy that resulted in a single trophy win out of nine attempts.

Let me paraphrase this blog section in simpler language: The task of preventing Celtic from achieving their goal of ten consecutive wins was a huge challenge, and the way Rangers accomplished it was remarkable. They played excellently throughout that season, yet it didn't continue for long.

Be Present At Ibrox!

Banfield's confidence was just a repetition of a pattern. He talked more than he took action. Beale's downfall came from his poor performance in the transfer market over the summer.

In 13 games, Cyriel Dessers has managed to score three goals against different teams such as Servette, Morton, and Motherwell. On the other hand, Sam Lammers has only scored one goal during his 14 matches against Livingston. It is quite disappointing because both of them cost a lot of money and played as attacking players. Thus, they only produced a total of four goals in 27 appearances. Antonio Colak, who was sold to Parma, performed much better last season by scoring 18 goals out of 39 matches.

Fashion Sakala wasn't the first choice for many, but his record of 12 goals in both the previous and last season make him quite impressive. He was recently sold to the Saudi Pro League. Meanwhile, Alex Lowry and Ianis Hagi have been sent out on loan. However, it begs the question if it's wise to let them go when the substitutes brought in for them are struggling so much.

Beale received a significant amount of support. They had extra money from the salaries of their highest paid players, such as Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Filip Helander, and others. Additionally, they obtained transfer fees for Glen Kamara, Colak, and Sakala. With this financial advantage, they had the chance to strengthen and reconstruct the team. However, they did not have the necessary expertise to acquire the correct players. They had an inexperienced manager who talked a lot but lacked the necessary skills. Furthermore, they did not have a director of football to guide the decision-making. In essence, they were attempting to achieve the impossible without the appropriate resources.

Before and even now, there was a clever individual at Ibrox who knew how to handle things. Walter Smith was the only one back then and will remain the only one of his kind today. However, the football team is in dire need of someone with his kind of influence.

After the Beale show, Rangers require a person with a profound personality and intelligence to develop a firm and transparent strategy. However, there are very few individuals available within their budget who possess such characteristics. Thus, the board is under significant pressure to locate a suitable candidate.

"Seville Feels Like Ages Ago"

Steven Davis has been selected as the new interim manager. He was a fantastic player in his time and is also known for being a wonderful person. However, he is inexperienced in this role and may hold the position for an extended period because the team is in no hurry to make a hasty decision after their previous rushed appointment.

At Ibrox, there isn't a knowledgeable leader to assist him. Instead, there are various coaches - Steven Smith, Alex Rae, Brian Gilmour, and Colin Stewart - who were put together in a rush. It's as if they ought to don a bright light on their head while going to practice.

They have fallen in a great way since the season they managed to reach the Europa League final. It feels like ages ago.

They emerged victorious against a team of Borussia Dortmund with skilled players like Jude Bellingham and Manuel Akanji, who were later purchased for £120m by Real Madrid and Manchester City respectively. Similarly, they defeated Braga who had talented players Vitinha and David Carmo, who were later sold for over £50m. Just last year in May, they beat Leipzig with players like Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai, who have since been acquired for more than £200m by Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

The Rangers crew engaged in a grueling 120-minute European match against Braga on Thursday and subsequenty secured a victory against Celtic on Sunday. Despite a loss on penalties during the Europa League final on Wednesday, they fought hard to win the Scottish Cup when they returned home from Seville just four days later.

They used to be a group with strong personalities and determination, and their coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, seemingly had a long-term plan. However, everything took a turn for the worse at an alarming pace.

Rangers haven't been doing too well lately, ever since their successful run in Europe and win in the Scottish Cup. They've been making a lot of mistakes and hindering their own progress. Beale's appointment as a manager didn't seem like a good decision, especially considering his lack of experience. His confidence, tactics, and player acquisitions also didn't make sense. Overall, it's been a strange and confusing time for the team as they struggle to find their place in the football world.
