The anchor of Good Morning Britain took up many important responsibilities of taking care of her husband Derek Draper when he was severely sick with Covid in March 2020. He spent almost 100 days in a coma and then got continuous 24/7 attention from professionals who visited their home and Garraway who took care of her husband too.

In the first month of the year, Draper passed away at the age of 56. He's left behind his partner, Garraway, who is also 56, and their two children, Darcey, 18, and Billy, who is 14 years old.

Kate Garraway, a television presenter, revealed in an upcoming hour-long film titled "Kate Garraway: Derek's Story" that she is facing financial difficulties due to the expenses of her husband's medical care despite having a high-paying job.

Filmed during Draper's last year, the movie depicts his continuous healthcare and daily activities, while bringing attention to the challenges faced by caregivers and the expenses associated with taking care of a family member at home.

According to Garraway, taking care of Draper costs more than what she earns from her TV job, without even factoring in other expenses.

The filming of 'Kate Garraway: Derek's Story' took place during the last year of Draper's life.

I won't lie, I'm not struggling with a low salary. I am fortunate to have an amazing job that I am passionate about and pays well. However, the pay is insufficient to cover Derek's fundamental needs, which cost approximately £4,000 per week. It's a hefty sum, and I'm unsure how to manage it. Honestly, it's challenging for anyone to afford a monthly expense of £16,000.

Before Draper passed away, she recorded a video stating that she was currently in a state of owing money and wasn't making sufficient income to pay it off. Her reasoning was that she was dedicating her time to caring for Derek.

When Draper got seriously sick with Covid in March 2020, Garraway assumed important responsibilities for his care.

According to Garraway, the funds she currently has to care for Draper are only being used for necessary expenses.

There is a belief that the hosts of Good Morning Britain receive at least £300,000 annually, although this amount may differ based on the individual presenter.

The TV host commended the remarkable caregivers who assisted Draper and her relatives, however, stated that they are striving to fulfill an "unattainable demand."

We depend entirely on amazing caregivers, but the environment they operate in is incredibly complex and severely underfunded. It's like attempting to fulfill an unattainable requirement.

The current support system for individuals like Derek, who are facing various challenges, not just related to Covid-19, does not bring about a sense of satisfaction as it is uncertain whether these resources will be taken away in the future.

Garraway condemned the traditional system that uses postcodes to determine which families get financial assistance.

The television program called "Kate Garraway: Derek's Story" will be broadcasted on Tuesday, March 25th on ITV1, ITVX, and STV at 9pm.
