Semenyo seals Bournemouth win against woeful Wolves

Wolves vs Bournemouth

Antoine Semenyo has equaled his highest scoring league season by scoring his eighth goal of the campaign.

Bournemouth triumphed over Wolves at Molineux with a solitary goal from Antoine Semenyo, propelling them to the upper half of the Premier League standings. This was achieved despite Milos Kerkez getting ejected from the match while playing with 10 men.

Semenyo made a comeback to the starting team and scored the first goal. He has now scored eight goals this season by putting the ball in from a short distance as Wolves could not clear their lines.

The visitors were deserving of the outcome as they had a proactive attitude from the beginning.

Bournemouth had numerous opportunities to score during the game, with their main scorer Dominic Solanke, as well as Alex Scott, Kerkez, and Justin Kluivert, all putting pressure on the opposing goalkeeper Jose Sa. Despite the constant onslaught, Jose Sa was able to hold his ground and perform impressively.

The Cherry team's inability to score appeared to be a problem when Hwang Hee-chan almost tied the game in the second half. However, the referee reviewed the play using video assistant technology (VAR) and decided to disallow the goal because of a foul during the lead-up to the shot. This means that the score remained unchanged.

Attwell, who caused controversy with the use of VAR during the Nottingham Forest and Everton game, determined that Matheus Cunha, a substitute for Wolves, hit Kluivert in the face with a swinging arm just before Nelson Semedo passed the ball to Hwang.

After the incident, the game returned to its original routine quickly. Bournemouth attempted to score but failed to succeed in the final third of the field. However, they were faced with a disadvantage as they had to play with one fewer player for the last 10 minutes of the regulation time due to a straight red card given to Hungary's left-back Kerkez for his tackle on Matt Doherty.

Andoni Iraola's team managed to hold off their opponents until the very end, even with 12 extra minutes added on, resulting in a victory that pushes them up to the 10th spot in the rankings. They're now only two points away from West Ham, who sit in eighth place. Meanwhile, Wolves have dropped down to 12th.

Wolves Fail Once More

The Wolves are having a tough time as they lost their fourth consecutive home game in all competitions. This is the first time they have experienced this since February 2017, back when they were playing in the Championship.

Gary O'Neil is having a tough time because his team hasn't won any of their last six league games, and they lost four of them. On top of that, his team is short on players, which is making things even harder.

The home team failed to establish any momentum throughout the game, as they had limited opportunities to score. This allowed Bournemouth to dominate the pace of the game and gain possession of the field in the opponents' half.

During the first half of the game, Pablo Sarabia had the greatest opportunity to score for Wolves. He took a curved shot from just outside the box but it was saved by Bournemouth's goalkeeper Mark Travers. This was Travers' first game in the league this season and he made an excellent move to prevent Sarabia's shot from going into the net.

The wolves appeared on the field for the second half, still remembering O'Neil's speech, but it did not make much of a difference as Bournemouth, O'Neil's previous team, continued to dominate the game.

The VAR system had a significant impact in preventing Wolves from scoring two goals, with the first goal being more controversial than the second.

Hwang made a fantastic header which ended up in a goal, but unfortunately, there was an issue earlier in the game that led to the goal being disallowed. In the dying moments of the game, Max Kilman made a commanding shot into the lower corner of the net, but unfortunately, VAR reviewed the play and determined that it was an offside.

During an interview with BBC Match of the Day, O'Neil expressed that it was the team's lowest performance and it was extremely terrible.

On an individual basis, many of us did not perform up to par with our standards in the league this season. However, as a team, it is imperative that we do not settle for this level of performance. We must take the time to analyze our efforts and strive to reach the heights we have previously achieved.

"We struggled with numerous mistakes that were not forced, and we were unsuccessful in every confrontation. However, I believe that the substitutes made a positive difference, and our performance improved in the second half, which was a small glimmer of hope."

Top Rankings For Cherries

From the very beginning, Bournemouth showed their intention to win by quickly advancing the ball up the field and creating many opportunities during an unequal competition.

Semenyo took the initiative and aimed a shot towards the Wolves goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the shot took an unintended turn, but Sa showed impressive reflexes by quickly knocking the ball away and earning a corner kick.

The Cherries may have sensed that the night was not in their favor as Sa was capable of handling everything that came their way.

Nevertheless, the stress eventually had its toll on the game as Kilman unintentionally passed the ball to Ghanaian striker Semenyo. Without hesitation, Semenyo took advantage of the opportunity and scored from a short distance.

Kluivert believed that he scored a second goal for Bournemouth by redirecting Marcos Senesi's off-target shot into the goal, but Sa made a great save to stop the Dutchman.

The away team relentlessly attacked during the second half of the game, causing the home crowd at Molineux to become increasingly frustrated. The turning point came with Kerkez's dismissal.

The 20-year-old player was expelled from the game for fouling Doherty and the decision was supported by VAR technology.

The dismissal, which was Bournemouth's third of the season and second against Wolves during this season, altered the dynamics of the game during the final portions.

Iraola should feel proud of how his team defended to secure a victory that brings them within just two points of setting a new club record for the most points earned in the top tier of their league.

When talking to BBC Match of the Day about attempting to surpass the previous record, the individual from Spain expressed contentment regarding their performance. They stated that they were thrilled to acquire three points.

We are excited about the future and striving to achieve the record, but we acknowledge that we have challenging matches ahead of us. Although two points may appear small, it has a significant impact.

To defeat Brighton on Sunday, we must perform exceptionally well and I am optimistic that we will come prepared.
