The presenter from Good Morning Britain shared the news about her spouse's passing in early January. Her partner had suffered from severe health issues related to COVID for a few years.

The ex-political counselor was 56 years old.

Before, Garraway revealed that she used to spend a total of £16,000 on a monthly basis to attend to her husband's fundamental care requirements and medical sessions for improving his mobility.

In a recent documentary that follows the last year of Draper's existence, the host confesses that the exorbitant expenses resulted in her financial difficulties.

During the program, Garraway mentioned that the expenses needed for Derek's care exceed the amount she earns from her job at ITV. These expenses come before the need to pay for a mortgage, household bills, and anything else necessary for their children. They are currently struggling to manage these expenses which puts them in a difficult position.

I'm currently in a situation where I owe money. Unfortunately, my income isn't enough to pay off my debt because I'm focused on taking care of Derek. Additionally, the funds I do have cannot go towards Derek's recovery as they are being used for basic necessities instead.

She also states: "I don't want to act as if my salary is low. I have a fantastic and enjoyable job that pays well. However, the amount of compensation I receive is insufficient."

In two past documentaries on ITV, namely "Finding Derek" and "Caring For Derek", Garraway commented that the expenses for taking care of her husband were about £4,000 weekly for just basic necessities, not even accounting for the cost of therapy.

The speaker, who is currently 56 years old, voiced their concerns by stating, "How is it feasible for me to manage such a steep expense? How could anyone bear a cost of £16,000 per month?"

"God, I hope this doesn't last for another 40 years."

In the show, the speaker reveals the consequences of tending to her spouse, highlighting that she lacks the physical ability to push his wheelchair or assist him in getting into bed.

She states that we heavily depend on exceptional caregivers, however, the system they operate in is tremendously intricate, lacks sufficient funding, and is attempting to fulfill an unattainable demand.

In the most recent show, titled Kate Garraway: Derek's Story, Draper finally speaks on camera and shares: "I want to tell you my story."

He adds that he desires to be listened to.

While on the show, Garraway mentioned that she was informed by authorities that Draper did not meet the requirements for subsidized care due to his condition not being severe enough and not having enough of a healthcare necessity.

"I requested for a reconsideration, but even after two-and-a-half, three years, it still hasn't been reviewed," she states.

I wonder how everyone else is feeling if this is the experience I'm having.
