Huddersfield Town 0-0 Bristol City highlights as Terriers held to draw

7 Mar 2023
Huddersfield vs Bristol City

Survival may prove to be beyond them, but Huddersfield Town need to come up with a much better performance against Bristol City if they are do what Neil Warnock has asked and restore some pride after back-to-back four-goal defeats.

Both Burnley and Coventry City have soundly seen the Terriers off over the past couple of weeks, sending them to the bottom of the table and seven points adrift of safety. This game in hand gives them the chance to close that gap with just two other Championship games being played tonight, but they will need to show something very different to achieve that.

21:40KEY EVENT

FULL TIME: Town 0-0 Bristol City

Better from Town, but still not enough for the three points.

21:39Steven Chicken

90 - Town corner in added time

Three minutes announced just as the ball crosses the line for a corner. Jackson to take.

Lees heads on, Waghorn keeps it alive, it's cleared off the line!

Bristol City clear but Town come again and Rudoni gets a powerful low shot off. The keeper sticks out a reflex boot and saves! Not sure how that stayed out.

Town keep going and Rudoni wins a corner.

Headed out, Rudoni air-kicks, City counter, Town stop it.

City come again, well tackled by Waghorn to stop it again.

21:35Steven Chicken

88 - Yellow card

Pring goes in the book for a foul.

21:29Steven Chicken

82 - Town corner

Koroma shoots first time off a loose ball and it's deflected for a corner.

It's cleared out as far as Rudoni, but he puts it over the bar as he tries to curl it around a pack of onrushing defenders.

21:27Steven Chicken

80 - Save!

Bristol City go on a counter and cross from the left. Hogg throws himself in front of it trying to put it over his own crossbar, but he forces Vaclik into a brilliant save!

Corner. Town counter from it. Rudoni shoots from the edge of the box, but it's a fairly comfortable save.

21:25Steven Chicken

78 - Ooft

Waghorn takes a nasty looking blow to the head by James as the pair challenge for a 50/50 header.

The ref stops play but he's OK.

21:24Steven Chicken

77 - Bristol City sub

Andreas Weimann replaces Sykes.

21:24Steven Chicken

76 - No finish

Diarra does well to carry the ball past his man inside the Town half and find Waghorn on the left with a switch of play. Back to Jackson, who smacks it back the other way for Koroma on the edge of the box. He tries to touch it back to Diarra, but it's slightly misdirected and the youngster isn't alert enough to adjust and get to it.

21:20Steven Chicken

72 - Town corner

Cross turned behind. Corner. Jackson to take.

King head it out and Town can't keep it just outside the box. Bristol City counter but Jackson just about stumbles into the path of the cross into the box, allowing Helik to punt it clear.

21:16Steven Chicken

69 - Bristol City corner

Lees has to dive in front of a shot and deflect it wide. Corner.

Town get it clear but the visitors come again before Town force it out for a throw.

Again they come and Cornick gets in behind but Hogg reacts well to force him wide. He plays it back inside for Scott, but his shot is tame and staight at Vaclik.

21:14Steven Chicken

67 - Close!

Best move of the game for Town there as Diarra carries the ball well before slipping to Waghorn up the left. He goes inside to Rudoni, who moves it on to find Koroma's run from the right wing, but his shot is wide of the far bottom corner.

21:10Steven Chicken

64 - Bristol City subs

Bell and Wells off, Anis Mehmeti and Harry Cornick on.

Smatterings of applause from the Town fans for Wells.

21:08Steven Chicken

61 - Save

Pring goes outside Pearson and blazes across the face of goal, but Vaclik pushes it well clear of danger. Town counter, with Diarra winning the ball back well after losing it unnecessarily, but they can't make the move come to anything.

21:05Steven Chicken

58 - Town corner

Miscommunication as O'Leary lets a ball go out not realising it's come off his own man. Corner.

In by Jackson, Waghorn can't get a clean header off and City clear.

Play stops for Sykes, who looks to have taken a blow to the face.

21:04Steven Chicken

57 - Close

Diarra has the chance to win a 50/50 ball and if he does he gets through on goal, but the defender gets there first - some fans feel the youngster could have commited to that better. Bristol City go on the counter with Koroma also losing a 50/50 before Pearson is burnt for pace, but Scott's heavy touch at the byline takes it out for a goal kick.

21:02Steven Chicken

55 - Save

Sykes cuts inside from the right, outpacing Ruffels and forcing Lees to come across and block his shot. It still deflects through to Vaclik, but it's an easy one for the keeper to stop and hold.

21:00Steven Chicken

53 - Disappointing

The crowd are unhappy with Rudoni after he delayed releasing a pass through to Koroma up the right wing before then playing it on his weaker right-foot and slightly over-hitting it for a throw.

20:54Steven Chicken

47 - Man down

Alex Scott goes down under a fair challenge by Rudoni and crosses into Lees' path, with the defender falling on top of him. Play stops so Scott can be looked at, but he's fine and will continue.

20:52KEY EVENT

SECOND HALF

We're back under way.

20:51Steven Chicken

Town subs

Waghorn replaces Ward, Koroma replaces Hungbo.

20:49Steven Chicken

Changes coming?

Martyn Waghorn and Josh Koroma aren't out with the rest of the subs for the warm-ups.

20:38KEY EVENT

HALF TIME: Huddersfield Town 0-0 Bristol City

Goalless at the break. The momentum has largely been with the visitors and Tomas Vaclik has been made to work, but Town had a very strong penalty shout turned down just moments ago.

20:36Steven Chicken

45+5 - Town corner

Brilliant from Diarra to get around a tight corner and slip it to Hungbo. He gets to the byline, cross blocked, corner. Jackson to take.

Punched out to Rudoni, whose shot from the edge of the box is charged down well and the ball is cleared.

That was Town's first shot of the game, by the way.

20:33Steven Chicken

Into added time

We're three minutes into six minutes of added time, by the way - got distracted watching the replays.

Hogg picks up a yellow card for a late challenge on Scott.

20:31Steven Chicken

45 - Penalty, surely?

A quick Town break ends with Rudoni going behind the City defence to win a bouncing ball and knocking it down into the box for Diarra to chase. He is about to pick it up and round the keeper before he hits the deck under heavy pressure from a defender, allowing the keeper to gather it - surely a penalty? No, says the referee.

It looks like Da Silva's sliding challenge had stopped before Diarra ran into him, but he still made the tackle, was in Diarra's path and was nowhere near the ball. That's a pen for me.

20:26Steven Chicken

40 - More defending

City are staying on the attack, with Jackson not doing enough to help Ruffels down the Town left side. They cross, but Scott miscues his volley, with the ball spinning up and landing about 90 degrees to his right.

Another cross is cleared and Jackson has the chance to go up the left, but dribbles straight out of play under little pressure.

20:20Steven Chicken

33 - Good challenge

Ward does great to hare back and get to a loose ball on the edge of the Town third, but a silly flick gives it to the visitors and they get into the box. Helik deals with it with a good tackle - corner.

City go short and Scott crosses for the unmarked Sykes at the back post, but Vaclik saves and it's turned behind by Pearson (I think) for another corner.

Vaclik makes an excellent save to deny Pring's close-range header, and King has almost a tap-in from the rebound...which he shins wide. He was offside anyway.

20:15Steven Chicken

29 - Break

Town attack well with Hungbo and Diarra combining to try and send Rudoni through, but Sykes tracked back superbly to cut out a decent through-ball from Diarra. Hungbo picks it up and tries to keep it alive but Scott challenges him to get it clear.

Bristol City now have a man down - skipper Matty James.

He's fine.
