Williamson back in England squad for Euro qualifiers

Euro qualifiers

Leah Williamson has been selected to be a part of England's team for the Euro 2025 qualifier games against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland. It's possible that she may receive her first cap since April of last year.

England's national soccer team invited her to participate in two friendly matches against Austria and Italy in February, but she had to decline due to an injury.

Millie Turner, the defender, was added to the team following Williamson's exit in February.

Williamson led England to victory at Euro 2022, but she hasn't played for her team since they lost to Australia 2-0 on April 11, 2023. However, she has recently played in Arsenal's last three games, including Sunday's triumph over Aston Villa with a score of 3-1.

Sarina Wiegman, the manager of the English team expressed her satisfaction by stating, "I am delighted with how the team is shaping up. They are in good form and have a great spirit."

I am excited to collaborate once more with Williamson. None of us anticipated her withdrawal in February, and it was a challenging and upsetting experience for both her and our team.

Williamson had to pull out of the previous event due to a small issue with his hamstring.

"But you need to start playing matches again," Wiegman stated. "She did a great job of recovering, and it didn't take her long, which is great. Currently, she is finding her groove. Naturally, she hasn't participated in too many games, but she is on her way and requires more playing minutes."

On the 5th of April, England will be playing against Sweden in Wembley. After that, on the 9th of April, they have a match with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.

In addition to Sweden and the Republic, England will compete against France in their League A qualifying group. The top two teams will advance automatically, while the other two will have to compete in the play-offs.

The preliminary rounds occur between April and July, while the championship itself is planned to take place in Switzerland during July of 2025.

Millie Bright, the centre-back of Chelsea who once captained England's squad in the Women's World Cup last year, won't be included in the team due to her current injury. Her absence paved the way for Williamson's return.

The individual who is 30 years of age did not take part in any games for Chelsea in 2024 due to an injury in the knee, which also prevented her from playing in the UEFA Nations League matches for England's women's national team in November.

Wiegman expressed her disappointment in Bright's absence yet again, stating that she felt let down.

Everyone was optimistic that Bright would rebound faster, but she is prioritizing taking the appropriate steps to fully recover and avoid any future setbacks," noted Wiegman.

It's going to take some extra effort at the gym to get her muscles up to par, and you can't rush that process. We're optimistic that she'll be ready to get back in the game after the international break, but right now she's doing what's wise and responsible for her body.

In the Manchester United squad, Turner replaces Le Tissier, and Clinton, a midfielder on loan from United to Tottenham, remains in the team after scoring in her first game against Austria in the previous month.

Manchester United's top scorer Nikita Parris and Aggie Beever-Jones, a forward for Chelsea who was promoted to the senior England squad after performing well on the under-23 team, are some of the players who won't be participating.

Parris, who has played in 71 games, has booted in eight goals in 16 matches for United this term. She recently shared with BBC Sport that making a comeback to the England squad will remain a lifetime goal until she stops playing.

Goalkeepers: Mary Earps from Manchester United, Hannah Hampton from Chelsea, and Khiara Keating from Manchester City will be participating.

The players who will be defending are Lucy Bronze from Barcelona, Jess Carter from Chelsea, Niamh Charles from Chelsea, Alex Greenwood from Manchester City, Esme Morgan from Manchester City, Millie Turner from Manchester United, Leah Williamson from Arsenal, and Lotte Wubben-Moy from Arsenal.

In the central position of the soccer field, there are a few great players to watch out for. Grace Clinton is currently on loan from Manchester United to Tottenham. Fran Kirby's team is Chelsea, and Jess Park is a player for Manchester City. Georgia Stanway is currently playing for Bayern Munich, while Ella Toone represents Manchester United. Finally, Keira Walsh of Barcelona completes the list of impressive midfielders.

Here are some suggestions for other words: - Forwards: Rachel Daly (playing for Aston Villa), Lauren Hemp (from Manchester City), Lauren James (part of Chelsea's team), Chloe Kelly (also from Manchester City), Beth Mead (representing Arsenal), Alessia Russo (with Arsenal) - Strikers: Rachel Daly (member of Aston Villa), Lauren Hemp (playing in Manchester City), Lauren James (part of Chelsea's squad), Chloe Kelly (in Manchester City), Beth Mead (on Arsenal's team), Alessia Russo (playing for Arsenal) - Attacking players: Rachel Daly (doing well with Aston Villa), Lauren Hemp (among the best in Manchester City), Lauren James (a key player for Chelsea), Chloe Kelly (also a strong player with Manchester City), Beth Mead (contributing to Arsenal's success), Alessia Russo (showing her skills with Arsenal)

Wiegman Stunned By Arsenal Visit To Australia

The ladies' soccer team of Arsenal has announced that they will go to Australia for a game against an A-League All Stars team in a friendly match. The date of the game is set for May 24th, right after the WSL season and a week before the international break.

The statement made by Wiegman in February about being "worried" about the hectic schedules of players brought up additional worries regarding their well-being.

"I reckon we've had numerous discussions regarding the calendar and how it can create jam-packed schedules. This poses various obstacles for both the team and us," Wiegman stated.

We are collaborating for the summer and have engaged in discussions with various clubs. I must admit that I was caught off guard by the recent excursion. Nonetheless, in the grand scheme of things, the tournaments wrapped up towards the end of May. There is a slight lull for about a week before the global break kicks in.

In my opinion, sending the players all the way to the other side of the world with such a packed schedule is not a wise decision. The duration of their stay is so limited that it wouldn't be possible for them to adapt to the new conditions. After playing one game, they will have to return to play two more matches for us against France.

I reckon this applies to not just English gamers, but any Europeans taking part in qualifying rounds. It's a significant obstacle for them to overcome and exhibit their superior skills.

Wiegman mentioned that she had positive discussions with Arsenal regarding the upcoming season and they share a mutual understanding.

I constantly communicate with coaches and we discuss players. This is also true with our medical and psychology team," said Wiegman.

As a larger group, we talked about the calendars and summer challenges we faced. These talks are still happening.

"We commenced in the beginning of January and our dialogues were productive. We have a mutual understanding, which is indeed quite demanding. In my opinion, this is highly beneficial."
