Atkinson: Used Cars Are Future, EVs Duped - Car Dealer Mag

Electric vehicle

Rowan Atkinson, who is famous for his role in Mr Bean, loves cars. But, he doesn't like electric cars because he feels, somehow, that he has been tricked. Rather, he is suggesting that we put more effort into making cars that last longer instead of getting new ones.

The guy from Blackadder who loves cars thinks electric cars are good for the air but the way they're made is bad for the earth.

Atkinson owns many supercars including a McLaren F1. Atkinson worries about "fast fashion" car sales. He thinks that these sales make people change their cars every three years.

He wrote in The Guardian that people only keep their new cars for three years before selling them, because of the common three-year leasing method.

This looks like a very wasteful use of nature's resources. A car that is three years old is still in good condition.

As a kid, old cars were usually rusty and headed for the scrapyard by age five. But times have changed. Now, you can build a car for only £15,000 that can last up to 30 years if cared for properly.

According to Atkinson, keeping cars for five years is better than three. This can help to reduce CO2 emissions. CO2 emissions are associated with car production.

He said they could have the same freedom of movement, but with older cars.

The TV star thinks people should keep their used cars for a longer time.

Atkinson crashed his expensive McLaren F1. He disclosed in 2013 that he spent almost £1m to repair the car. Now the car is back on the road.

He mentioned that we should recognize the value of the current cars in existence. There are almost 1.5 billion of them globally.

These cars have done their part for the environment. It's a good idea to use them less, but we should keep them around. We need to find ways to make them pollute less.

We should use cars less. The environmentalist suggested using an old car and minimizing its use.

Atkinson thinks electric cars aren't suitable for the future of the car industry.

The man said that the batteries in electric vehicles are a problem. These batteries are called lithium-ion batteries. They are very heavy and need many rare earth metals to make them. It also takes a lot of energy to make them. The batteries only last about 10 years.

Using cars to combat climate change seems like a strange idea. But that's exactly what some are proposing with electric cars. By removing fossil fuels from the equation, electric cars can significantly reduce emissions. Of course, there are still environmental concerns with the production and disposal of the batteries used in electric cars. However, overall, electric cars are seen as a promising step towards a cleaner transportation future.

I think people are starting to move on from being obsessed with electric cars, and that's good. We need to think about other ways to fix the damage cars have done to the environment.

Develop hydrogen and synthetic fuels to save older cars. Older cars have more to give. Promote a different business model for the car industry. Keep new vehicles longer. Acknowledge their amazing longevity.

My eco-friendly friends often ask if they should buy an electric car since I'm a car enthusiast who loves green living.

I suggest people with old diesel cars doing lots of city driving might want to consider a different car. Otherwise, wait a bit. Electric cars will be better for the environment but that time hasn't come yet.
