Rovers kick off their Sky Bet League Two play-off journey with a trip to Crewe Alexandra for the first leg.

In the league rankings, there was only one goal that separated the two teams who both had 71 points. Rovers did well enough to secure playing the second leg of the game at their home stadium.

Both teams have won a game each in their meetings this season, and in both games the winning team was the host.

The Rovers team emerged victorious with a score of 2-0 in the match played at the Eco-Power Stadium in March. This win marked the beginning of a remarkable winning streak for the team, which lasted for ten consecutive matches and set a new record for the club.

Hakeeb Adelakun scored a goal in a magnificent way by hitting the ball directly from the corner, and right after that, Tommy Rowe came in as a substitute in the second half and managed to tap the ball in from the far post, leading to a victory of three points for the team led by Grant McCann.

The Railwaymen managed to secure a spot in the play-offs by the end of the season, but it wasn't an easy journey as they only managed to win two out of 12 matches in League Two.

Lately, there has only been one win out of the last six games. This streak began with a 3-0 defeat at home against a team that was relegated, Forest Green Rovers.

The team tied with Accrington Stanley without scoring any goals and then went on to win their most recent match against Morecambe.

Alex has not won any of their last three games, losing two 3-0 to Grimsby Town and Wrexham, and only managing one point in their match against Colchester United during the last game of the regular season.

The recent match between Colchester United and Crewe Alexandra ended in a draw, with both teams scoring one goal each.

The football match competition known as Sky Bet League Two will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Starting lineup: Stryjek, Adebisi, Demetriou, Williams, Cooney (substituted for Kirk in the 81st minute), Billington, Tabiner, Long (substituted for Rowe at half-time), Holicek (substituted for Austerfield at half-time), Tracey (substituted for Baker-Richardson in the 71st minute), Nevitt.

Lee Bell, who has been nominated for the Sky Bet League Two manager of the year award, became the permanent manager of Gresty Road in December 2022. Prior to this appointment, he served as the U18 and U23 manager at the club.

Bell had two separate stints with the team and participated in a total of 148 matches for Alex. This encompassed 34 matches at the higher level of the Championship. He experienced promoting the team to a higher league twice during his time with them.

Stryjek, a goalkeeper from Poland, was brought in on loan by Alex on April 13th as a result of injuries in the goalkeeping department. He had previously been playing for Wycombe Wanderers.

The player who developed at Sunderland's academy has participated in 88 games throughout the EFL. The majority of these were with the Chairboys, wherein he obtained the second-place prize in the current term's EFL Trophy.

In July of 2023, the experienced defender Demetriou signed on with Alexandra following a six-year tenure with Newport County that came to a conclusion.

The guy from England was able to play 300 times for the Exiles and managed to score 26 times before transitioning to Crewe. While there, he got chosen to be part of the Sky Bet League Two team of the year.

In 2023, Tracey, a winger, switched to Crewe following a two-year stint at Cambridge United.

A footballer who is 25 years old started playing for Tottenham Hotspur in 2016. However, he did not get a chance to play for the main team before going to Cambridge in 2021. As of now, Tracey has played in 43 games and scored three goals.

The Railwaymen's leading scorer, Nevitt, has managed to find the back of the net 18 times throughout the season. In addition to this, he has also provided two assists which brings his total goal contributions to 20 when taking into account all competitions.

The ex-Tranmere Rovers striker came to Gresty Road in the January transfer window of the previous season and has achieved his highest goal score in his first season with the team.

Established back in 1877, Crewe Alexandra became a part of the Football League in 1892. However, their membership was lost just after four years. Nonetheless, they managed to make a comeback and were successful in securing a position in the EFL, achieving a remarkable rise up to the second tier in 2003.

Rovers and Crewe first faced off in the 1923/24 Division Three North season. Rovers came out on top with a 2-0 win during the away match and later a 4-1 victory over Crewe in just a week's time. Currently, the two teams have played against each other 109 times. Rovers are currently ahead in the head-to-head rivalry with 44 wins in comparison to Crewe's 37.

In the past, Rovers had a match with the Railwaymen that consisted of two parts. This occurred during the 2006/07 EFL Trophy competition. During this match, Paul Heffernan scored four goals, and Brian Stock and Jason Price scored as well. Together, their efforts led to a victory with a 6-5 scoreline. This win allowed Rovers to advance to the final round.

"Surprise Outcome For All"

Alex Kiwomya, who used to play for Chelsea, was a part of the Rovers and the Alex teams from 2016 to 2020.

The attacker was loaned to Crewe from Chelsea in 2016 and played in 39 games, where he scored seven goals and provided an additional five assists.

The person from Yorkshire became a member of Rovers for good during the summer of 2017. At that time, the team, led by Darren Ferguson, was getting ready for the upcoming League One games. However, the player only participated in 20 matches throughout three seasons and only managed to score once.

Kiwomya, who is now 27 years old, was most recently seen playing for Stafford Rangers in the Northern Premier League in the 2022/23 season.
