According to information gathered in the latest Annual Report of Cruise Industry News for 2023, the Western Coast has shown remarkable growth in terms of passenger traffic. In fact, this year alone, the region has surpassed its previous record year of traffic in 2022 by accommodating over 1.4 million passengers. This outstanding achievement has set yet another regional record, indicating the continuous growth and success of the Western Coast in the cruise industry.

The number of guests in the market exceeded 1.4 million in 2022, surpassing the previous record of just under 1.2 million guests set in 2008. Factors such as problems in Mexico, the economic downturn, and the Alaska head tax contributed to a decline in traffic, reaching its lowest point in 2013. However, things started to improve gradually after that.

These voyages predominantly depart from harbors like San Diego, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and San Francisco. Vessels embark on both brief and extensive routes, with the majority heading towards Mexico. However, there are also a few longer journeys available, sailing up the coast in the northward direction and venturing westwards to Hawaii.

Carnival is the leading cruise line on the West Coast, operating three vessels specifically serving the area. These ships transport more than 600,000 tourists each year from their base in Long Beach, and also make use of ports in San Diego and San Francisco.

Following the global outbreak, Royal Caribbean made its debut in the industry and established itself in Los Angeles.

Princess is a significant contender in the industry, embarking on distinctive routes to both Mexico and Hawaii.
