According to a report from the Financial Times, the debut of a much-awaited extravagant cruise vessel has been postponed due to apprehensions regarding safety.

According to an unidentified source cited by the newspaper, the cruise ship, Explora I, operated by the prominent cruise company MSC, had its significant safety certification revoked due to defective fire-resistant panels.

According to the sources, Paroc, a company from Finland that supplies panels to shipbuilder Fincantieri, notified the Italian company that another kind of panel has also had its certification revoked.

The first-ever vessel for MSC's upscale Explora Journeys unit is the magnificent Explora 1, which stands tall at a height of 813 feet. This remarkable ship is just the beginning, as the company plans to launch a total of four ships under this exclusive division.

Sources have informed the FT that the release of the Explora 1 has supposedly been postponed by Paroc. Not only that, but Paroc has also reportedly discovered 45 more vessels transporting the defective panels. The FT has further disclosed that Royal Caribbean International is also among the clients of Paroc.

Based on the information gathered by Cruise Market Watch, there are approximately 320 cruise vessels currently in operation across the world.

This implies that approximately 15% of the cruise ships currently in operation worldwide might face potential problems if the panels require replacement.

According to the Cruise Line International Agency, the cruise industry is projected to witness a slight improvement in travel this year, surpassing the levels seen in 2019. This optimistic data suggests a resurgence in demand that mirrors the period before the global health crisis.

Based on predictions made by Oxford Economics, the cruise industry's operational capacity is anticipated to surpass its 2019 level by 16% in the year 2024.

Insider reached out to MSC and Fincantieri for comment beyond regular business hours, but they have yet to provide a response.
