Match Report: Celtic 3-0 Hearts

Celtic

Kyogo scored two goals in the first half and an injury time penalty taken by Matt O'Riley caused Hearts to lose the match at Parkhead on Saturday.

Steven Naismith decided to keep the same starting lineup for the match in Glasgow's eastern region after their draw at Rugby Park last week.

When most away teams go to Celtic Park, they don't get many opportunities to score. However, the Hearts team had a chance to score within the first 60 seconds but they missed it.

Kenneth Vargas made a great decision to pass the ball to Dexter Lembikisa. Dexter, who rushes forward from the side, was able to reach the area near the goal and pass the ball back to Lawrence Shankland. Lawrence hit the ball with his left foot and it seemed like it was going to score, but Cameron Carter-Vickers was able to make an awesome save by pushing it away from the net. The ball went out of bounds, resulting in a corner kick.

The Jambos had a chance to score, but they didn't take it and this mistake cost them a goal just three minutes later. Celtic got a corner, and even though Zander Clark did a good job punching the ball away, Reo Hatate passed it back to Kyogo with a high cross, and he was quick to score the first goal with a header.

Despite a difficult start, Hearts maintained their determination and almost scored an equalizer within the first ten minutes. Shankland found himself in a threatening position, turned and attacked the Celtic defense. He then passed the ball to Cammy Devlin who hit a strong volley, but Joe Hart made an outstanding save.

On the 21st minute, Celtic scored a second goal. Kyogo made a precise move, positioning himself right between Frankie Kent and Kye Rowles, and then scoring a goal that went past Clark.

The male players dressed in maroon kept making opportunities and almost scored again just before thirty minutes had passed. Once more, this occurred due to Lembikisa's great performance, and after his pass reached Devlin, a player dressed in green and white stopped his shot from very close range with an impressive block.

After the corner kick, Hearts had another opportunity to score. Stephen Kingsley jumped the highest at the far end of the goal, but unfortunately, he couldn't make proper contact with the ball and headed it wide of the target from Alex Cochrane's cross.

For most of the first 45, Clark didn't have much to keep him busy. However, in the last few minutes of the half, he made three impressive saves from long-range shots. He caught Greg Taylor's attempt from afar then blocked Reo Hatate's volley from the edge of the box. But his best save was in the last minute of normal time when he stopped Kyogo's shot, following the home team's patient build-up play.

Intermission: Celtic ahead 2-0 against Hearts.

After displaying a strong performance towards the latter part of the first half, the team playing at home started the second half with great speed. A second time, Clark had to intervene to prevent Celtic from scoring in the 60th minute.

The team in the lead were controlling the ball more, while Hearts were trying to counter-attack. When Yutaro Oda came on for his first game, he added energy to the team's offensive moves. The Japanese winger almost scored a goal to bring the team within one point from the leader, with only 16 minutes left in the game.

He stole the wallet from Greg Taylor and then advanced towards the goal area, taking a shot at Joe Hart from within the penalty box.

Celtic managed to score their third goal from a penalty on the 87th minute. Shankland was found guilty of committing a handball offense, leading to the award of the penalty. Matt O'Riley made no mistake and launched the ball high into the net, concluding the goal-scoring for the game.

The players who represented Celtic in the match were Hart, Johnston, Taylor, Scales, Kyogo (Idah, 72), Kühn (Maeda, 72), Carter-Vickers, O'Riley, Hatate (Iwata, 71), McGregor (Bernardo, 88), and Forrest (Palma, 83).
