Elon Musk & China's Industry Minister Discuss EVs

The minister of industry in China met with Elon Musk. They talked about how to make electric and smart cars. The ministry told people about their discussion.

Musk met with top officials in China this year. He's not the only CEO to do so, as leaders from other global companies, such as Apple Inc., have also met with them. The anti-virus controls that previously blocked travel have been lifted.

China’s leadership wants to stimulate investment in its economy, which has slowed down. They also want to calm down businesses that are worried about various crackdowns and tensions. There have been raids on consulting firms, too. The Communist Party aims to make sure that companies’ plans fit in with the party’s goals for industry and economic growth.

The Minister of Industry and Musk talked about new energy and smart vehicles. There's no more information about what they discussed.

In March, Li, the premier, met with CEOs. He talked to Tim Cook, Albert Bourla, Jakob Stausholm, and Toshiaki Higashihara. These CEOs are from Apple, Pfizer, Rio Tinto, and Hitachi. Li gave them a message of reassurance.

The ministry statement says Qin told Musk about China's EV market growth potential.

In 2019, Tesla started the first auto factory in China that is fully owned by a foreign company. China allowed this to happen by relaxing its ownership rules. The goal was to create more competition and make the industry grow faster.

Musk spoke in China and said Tesla wants to grow there. China said this too. Musk also said he doesn't want the world to split into different markets with things that don't work together. China agreed.

Tesla did not reply to email requests for information about Musk's trip to China.

The ruling party of China blocks access to Twitter. Musk owns most of Twitter.
