A sacked worker has told how she is owed £3,000 in unpaid wages - after the company plunged into administration. Laura Watkins was working as a coordinator for CGC Couriers at an UPS depot when she says she was told not to return to work after a week's annual leave last November.

But the 31-year-old says she has never received her November pay packet. Now CGC Couriers has collapsed into administration in a move which has also left some workers at Stoke-on-Trent's Amazon depot out of pocket.

Laura said: “I’d been unwell. My boss at the time came in and said ‘have a week off to rest, we’ve got someone coming in to help out’. I came back in after the week off and they fired me. I had no inkling that my job was in danger.

“They basically have not paid me for November - and then ghosted me. Now they've gone into administration. That's £3,000 I’ll never see. I’m simply asking for payment for work I've done.

"Another driver has got solicitors involved, he’s owed about £3,000. Another driver is owed just under £1,000. The whole thing is a shambles.

“I worked hard. I was there every day from 7am, sometimes from 3am. They dismissed me on the spot. They went behind my back and got someone else in.”

CGC Couriers has not responded to StokeonTrentLive’s request for a statement regarding Laura's case.

An UPS spokesperson said: “We are not in a position to comment on a specific personnel issue for one of our subcontractors. We trust and expect all of our people, and those working on our behalf, to operate in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.”
