International roundup: Paquetá levels late for Brazil in thriller against Spain

Spain vs Brazil

During a heated friendly match at the Santiago Bernabéu, Lucas Paquetá saved Brazil from a defeat by scoring a penalty in the last minutes of the game. This ensured that Brazil drew 3-3 with Spain, even though they had some good luck on their side.

At the beginning of the game, the team that was playing at home controlled the game and was able to score two goals. The first goal was made by Rodri from a penalty kick, and the second goal was made by Dani Olmo. However, just before halftime, the visitors were able to reduce the gap with a goal from Rodrygo, who took advantage of a mistake made by the goalkeeper Unai Simón.

In the football match, a Brazilian teenager named Endrick came onto the field and scored a goal from a corner kick four minutes into the second half, tying the score. But, Spain regained the lead when Rodri scored from a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Nonetheless, Brazil was able to score again when Galeno got fouled in the penalty area and Paquetá successfully hit the ball into the net five minutes after the regulated time.

The coach of Spain, Luis de la Fuente, expressed his disappointment over the negative reaction of certain supporters towards Álvaro Morata, who plays for Atlético Madrid and also captains the national team. The jeering occurred during a match at the stadium of Real Madrid. De la Fuente stated that it was distressing to witness such behavior towards a player who serves as a role model for the country. He further added that such incidents make him feel ashamed as a Spanish citizen. According to the coach, the national team should always be supported, irrespective of whether it is a friendly match, an official contest, or a non-competitive event. He called for fans to set aside their club loyalties when it comes to backing the national side.

Germany, who are set to host Euro 2024, earned a 2-1 win against the Netherlands in an international friendly match. Niclas Füllkrug scored the winning goal in the 85th minute, helping Germany secure two consecutive victories in the last four days.

The outcome of the game boosted the morale of the German team even more. This came after their previous victory over France, where they won with a score of 2-0. The team has had a history of lackluster performances at international events, so this is an important step towards fielding a competitive team on their home turf. Additionally, this is the first time their coach Julian Nagelsmann has achieved two consecutive wins in his six matches leading the team since he assumed the position in September.

In their recent match, the team that had managed to score merely seven seconds into the game during their victory over France, wasn't as lucky this time. Their competitors took the lead just four minutes in with Joey Veerman managing to volley a goal in following a blunder by their defender, Maximilian Mittelstädt.

In the initial 30 minutes of the game, the hosts managed to have possession of the ball for over 70%. Nevertheless, after seven minutes, Mittelstädt scored an amazing curled shot into the top corner of the opponent's net, thereby leveling the game. During the first half of the match, Nagelsmann's team seemed to be in control and could have scored more goals. The Dutch team, however, had to defend deeply to withstand the constant pressure from the host's side.

After the halftime, the pace slowed down quite a bit and the opposing team began to have more room to maneuver. They almost scored with attempts made by Donyell Malen and Memphis Depay. Nonetheless, Jamal Musiala, who has been playing exceptionally well for both his club and national team this year, had a go at the goal in the 76th minute, forcing the goalkeeper of the Netherlands, Bart Verbruggen, to make a great save.

A few moments later, he once again came to the aid and prevented Thomas Müller from scoring, which helped maintain the Netherlands' chances of winning the game. The Netherlands had previously emerged as winners with a 4-0 victory against Scotland on Friday. Sadly, Verbruggen's attempts to stop the opposition team were not successful in the 85th minute, as Füllkrug scored a close-range header to mark his 11th goal in 15 international appearances.

Georgia successfully secured their spot in Euro 2024, marking their first major tournament appearance. In a nail-biting playoff game against Greece, the teams remained goalless until the very end, resulting in a tense penalty shootout. It was Georgia's own Nika Kvekveskiri who stepped up and successfully converted his penalty, securing their win. The ecstatic home crowd cheered as they watched their team narrowly advance to the next stage.

The match was intense and messy, and neither team had many opportunities to score during regular time. Things got slightly more exciting during extra time, as both sides had chances to win. Ultimately, the game went to a penalty shootout as expected. Georgia has been placed in Group F with Portugal, Turkey, and Czech Republic for the upcoming European Championship tournament in Germany, which is set to start on June 14th.

France turned the tables around after conceding an early goal and went on to win 3-2 against Chile in a friendly game held at Stade Vélodrome. The French side was aided by the goals scored by Youssouf Fofana, Randal Kolo Muani, and Oliver Giroud.

The guests played offensively from the get-go and were able to score after only six minutes with a well-executed pass from the right that led to a low shot by Marcelino Núñez. However, France was able to level the score in the 18th minute thanks to Fofana, who was set up by Kylian Mbappé on the edge of the box. His shot, which was deflected by the defence, managed to get past the goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Kolo Muani scored the first goal for the hosts by heading the ball from a well-placed cross by Theo Hernández in the 26th minute. Then, in the 72nd minute, Giroud secured the victory and added to his impressive record as the player with the most goals for France, with a total of 57 goals.
