Rhod fought against a severe illness and received the positive results in October of 2023, after doctors detected that he had head and neck cancer in 2022.

On the show, he expressed his feelings saying, "This experience is filled with a lot of emotions for me. There was a time when I was uncertain about what the future had in store for me. Being present here, or anywhere for that matter, feels gratifying. It is truly phenomenal."

He stated: 'I consider myself fortunate to still be present. It dawned on me, after being diagnosed with cancer, that I had been moving aimlessly through life under the impression that "cancer only happens to others".'

Tonight's episode of Bake Off was particularly special because Rhod Gilbert's deep connection to the charity was evident. It's truly inspiring to witness the immense amount of charitable efforts he consistently puts forth. #GBBO

I really enjoy watching this episode of #celebritybakeoff. Danny is consistently entertaining and it's great to see Rhod Gilbert return and appear healthy. This specific episode is in support of #standuptocancer and #su2c.

Rhod Gilbert is a big fan of #GBBO ❤️. If you haven't had the chance to view his emotional documentary titled 'A Pain in the Neck for SU2C', I highly recommend it.

Do you agree with me that #Rhodgilbert should be the winner of #GBBO and #SU2C?

I absolutely love Rhod Gilbert's comedy, so the thought of him and Danny Dyer teaming up is going to be nothing short of crazy.

During the past decade, Rhod has gathered a sum of nearly £2 million to fund endeavors related to cancer care and research.

Rhod fought against a vicious illness and received good news in October 2023, having been diagnosed with cancer of the head and neck in 2022.

In the show, he expressed his feelings, stating: 'Being here is a highly emotional experience for me. There was a time when I was uncertain about what the future had in store for me. So simply being present, regardless of the location, is quite satisfying. It's truly remarkable, indeed.'

As Rhod made his brave debut on the Channel 4 show for celebrities, admirers were amazed by his appearance and commented on how great he looked.

According to a post on X, previously referred to as Twitter, a number of individuals expressed their delight at the return of Rhod Gilbert to television by writing: "It's great news that we get to see Rhod Gilbert on TV once more! #GBBO."

In the past decade, Rhod has collected a sum of nearly £2 million in order to support cancer patients and research efforts.

On the episode aired on Sunday night, Rhod was a guest alongside Danny Dyer, Leigh Francis, and Yinka Bokinni (who were seated in the bottom row).

While participating in a fundraising hike, he observed a few indications that were eventually diagnosed as cancer of the head and neck.

Rhod Gilbert documented his experience in the upcoming Channel 4 film entitled "Rhod Gilbert: A Pain In The Neck."

The show chronicles the journey of the Welsh man, starting from his diagnosis and continuing through his treatment with the inclusion of personal and private video journals.

Rhod explained his rationale for documenting his battle with cancer, stating that he was resting on a Friday and had plans to begin treatment the forthcoming Monday.

I called the team I was familiar with and found out that there was no broadcaster involved. Everything was just an idea. Then, I inquired, "Would you like to come with me on this adventure?"

I did it somewhat for myself. I had decided to forego all my engagements related to TV and traveling, and I desired to reserve some time for something other than "cancer" in my schedule.

I realized that my health wasn't good enough to perform on stage or appear on TV, but I believed that I could manage to have a conversation with a team making a documentary about my illness while lying in bed. I figured it would provide me with a way to pass the time.

At the start of the year, Rhod shared that he discovered a tumor in his neck while he was in Cuba for a charity trek to support Velindre Cancer Centre. He described the discovery as "ironic" because he ended up becoming a patient at the same cancer center.

Rhod received a diagnosis of cancer affecting his neck and throat, specifically a lump on his tonsil and the area at the bottom of his tongue. This news came to him in April 2022.

Rhod has declared his intention to make a comeback on stage and is presently organizing a comedy tour scheduled for 2024, acknowledging that "life's too short." (The photo was taken in 2018.)

After being diagnosed in February, he made a heartfelt speech during the National Comedy Awards, which was hosted for Stand Up 2 Cancer. This was his first appearance on screens since his diagnosis.

When he spoke in the clip he recorded earlier at his own house, he shared that he had difficulty with speaking and breathing due to discovering a bump on his neck.

Rhod expressed that he was unable to communicate or inhale and had to delay and call off performances on his tour. He also endured severe convulsions in his facial muscles and substantial constriction in his muscular structure.

I couldn't figure out what was going on, but it turns out I have head and neck cancer, which was determined after a biopsy of a lump in my neck. It's a pretty serious diagnosis.

Rhod expressed his frustration with his diagnosis as he joked about his false belief that he would be immune to cancer after being a patron for a cancer center for 10 years.

He stated that for the past decade, charity fundraising had been a major part of his life. He had organized five charity treks around the globe, performed stand-up comedy gigs to raise funds, and even hosted quiz nights. So, you could imagine his shock when he received a cancer diagnosis.

This really upset me a lot because I believed I would be protected from it for my entire life. But it turns out that's not true.

It seems that even if you devote your time to collecting funds for a hospital that helps cancer patients, you can still end up with cancer yourself. Regardless, I ended up getting it and learned that cancer doesn't discriminate based on your activities or lifestyle.

Head & Neck Cancer: What Is It?

Cancers that occur in the regions of the nose, mouth, throat, voice box, thyroid, and salivary glands are collectively known as head and neck cancer.

In the United Kingdom, approximately 12,000 individuals are diagnosed with this type of cancer every year, making it the eighth most prevalent in the country.

Over 30 different regions within the head and neck are susceptible to cancer, such as the mouth, lips, vocal cords, throat, and salivary glands.

The cancer that most usually happens in the head and neck region is known as mouth cancer, but there is also another type called laryngeal cancer, which can grow in the tissue of the voice box.

Cancers related to the thyroid, brain, eyes, and oesophagus do not typically fall under the category of head and neck cancer.
