Rhod Gilbert sought partnership with a group of documentarians to document his journey through cancer treatment.

Rhod Gilbert has claimed that his experience with cancer has made him fully concentrate on building a family.

Last year, the funnyman received a diagnosis of head and neck cancer. However, he recently underwent his first scan, which resulted in a positive outcome – no signs of the disease were found.

During an interview with Radio Times, Gilbert stated that he didn't regret being diagnosed with the illness and had a desire to support others who are going through the same thing.

On Monday evening, Channel 4 broadcasts a documentary about his battle against cancer.

Gilbert disclosed to the Radio Times that he and his partner, Sian Harries, were recently determined to start a family.

In 2021, he created a new documentary that tackled the subject of infertility.

"We've been on this journey for a while now, and we're still considering all the different ways we can become parents. This process has really made us think deeply about it," he stated.

I don't regret having cancer. It may seem strange to say, and I sympathize with my wife's hardship. However, I believe that I can make a difference by supporting others, being a source of comfort for my friends, and offering a helping hand to those in need.

"Enjoy The Sweeter Side Of Life"

According to Gilbert, the fresh documentary could be beneficial to numerous individuals.

He mentioned that he enjoys having a feeling of direction.

I have personally witnessed the significance of contributing more. I have only witnessed affection, concern, and benevolence, which instills more optimism in me towards mankind.

Although it may sound unoriginal, life is much more enjoyable now than before. I no longer view life as if it handed me sour lemons, but rather like I received a delightful trifle.

Over the course of a year and a half, cameras documented the treatment of the 55-year-old comedian from Carmarthen. The purpose of this footage was to increase public knowledge and understanding of the illness.

He documented his personal journey through video logs, outlining his diagnosis, surgical procedure, chemotherapy, radiotherapy - and proudly ringing the end-of-treatment bell.

Before he was diagnosed, Rhod had been collecting funds for the Velindre Cancer Centre for 10 years.

Gilbert, who has been supporting the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff as a celebrity patron and fundraiser for a decade, expressed his unusual feeling of being on the receiving end of treatment from the same centre.

As someone who requires medical treatment, I also happen to hold a special status as a supporter of the hospital. It's a bit strange to undergo chemotherapy while surrounded by images of myself hanging on the walls.

It's really unreal and strange, almost beyond belief. In the past, the reason why I was inspired to collect funds was that it's an exceptional hospital, and I felt privileged to help them with fundraising. Presently, it's much more consequential, given that they've saved my life.

"As long as it is possible, I will continue to raise funds for them."

On Monday, October 30th, at 9:00 PM GMT, Channel 4 will broadcast "Rhod Gilbert: A Pain in the Neck."
