Boosting morale and tackling tasks: Challenges for Cristian Stellini at Tottenham.

Premier League

Tottenham has selected Cristian Stellini as the temporary coach for the rest of the season.

After an outburst from Antonio Conte following the 3-3 draw against Southampton last Saturday, Spurs decided to end their partnership with him.

In this article, PA news agency will discuss the tasks and responsibilities that Stellini will have to handle.

The team's confidence is understandably low due to Conte's angry outburst against "selfish players" who "only play for themselves" last weekend. This isn't the first time he has criticized the group, and while some of his words were true, it has made his position as manager difficult. Many of the Spurs' players have gone away for international duties, and being in a new environment may have helped them forget the intense scenes during their last match. However, it has also meant that everyone is watching closely as the team has not lived up to expectations this season. They were expected to be more consistent after a busy summer of transfer activity, but instead, the opposite has occurred. Even though there's a new manager, players' feelings are still hurt.

Tottenham had a great run of scoring goals towards the end of the 2021-22 season thanks to Conte's 3-4-3 football strategy. Although this tactic can be enjoyable to watch, it hasn't been seen much during this season. Fans have had to endure boring first halves where the team plays defensively and allows the opposition to pressure them. As a result, Tottenham has let in 40 goals in just 28 Premier League matches. Supporters would be more accepting of poor defense if the team played with full force on the attack. Unfortunately, under Conte, a third of Tottenham's Premier League goals have come from set-pieces, demonstrating their lack of bite in front of the goal. To win back the fanbase, ditching the negative counter-attacking tactics of previous managers would be a good start.

Harry Kane has been performing consistently well this season, scoring 23 goals. However, his fellow forwards have not been doing as well. Son Heung-min, who was a joint-winner of the Premier League Golden Boot last year, has only scored in six of his 37 appearances this season. He doesn't seem to be playing as well as he used to and his confidence appears to be decreasing each week. Richarlison, who was signed for £60 million in the summer, has not managed to score in the league yet and only has two goals due to being injured for a lot of the season. Dejan Kulusevski, who was expected to score a lot of goals, has only scored two so far as Conte's strategy of relying on individual skill hasn't worked out. If Spurs want to achieve success in the final 10 matches, Harry Kane needs support from his fellow forwards.

Despite being ranked fourth in the table, Conte's decision to leave Tottenham Hotspur may seem unusual as Newcastle is closing in on their position. Additionally, Liverpool and Brighton are also contenders in the Champions League qualification race. While Spurs have secured 15 consecutive seasons without winning any titles, fans expect more than just another top-four finish. Anything less would be considered a catastrophic season for the team. A significant factor in Tottenham's success this season is their ability to return to Europe's top competition, which could persuade Kane to stay, and generate more funding for the club's new coach during summer spending. While facing Newcastle, Manchester United, and Liverpool in a crucial seven-day period in April, six other matches against bottom-half teams could provide Tottenham the chance to take the fourth spot.
