Boost morale and tackle the day - Challenges ahead for Cristian Stellini at Tottenham.

Premier League

Tottenham has selected Cristian Stellini to serve as temporary head coach until the completion of the season.

The Spurs team chose to end their partnership with Antonio Conte due to his outburst after their 3-3 tie with Southampton last Saturday.

In this blog, we will examine the tasks that Stellini needs to address.

I am pleased to have scored my first goal in the @premierleague, although I am disappointed with the outcome. It was not the result that we desired. It is important that we stick together @spursofficial ????#COYS. pic.twitter.com/IdDvGtFTdH

The team's mood is likely low after Conte criticized "selfish" players who only think of themselves during last week's rant. This isn't the first time he's targeted the group, and while some of his speech was accurate, it put his position in jeopardy. Many of the Spurs players left for international duty right after their loss, which may have helped them forget the intense situation at St Mary's, but all eyes are still on a team that hasn't met expectations this season. Fans anticipated a lot of changes in the summer, but instead of seeing more consistency, the opposite came true. Even with a new manager in charge, some players may still feel hurt.

During the end of the 2021-22 season, Tottenham scored a lot of goals and played well under their manager, Conte, who favored a 3-4-3 formation with wing-backs and three attackers. However, this season has been different with many boring first halves and a team that sits back and invites pressure, leading to a lot of goals being conceded. While fans would forgive a leaky defense if the team was aggressive in attack, a third of the goals scored under Conte have been from set-pieces, showing a lack of creativity up front. To win the fans back, it would be wise for the team to move away from the negative counter-attacking style of the last three managers.

Despite Harry Kane's impressive 23 goals this season, his fellow forwards have not performed as well. Son Heung-min, who was a joint winner of the Golden Boot last May, has only scored in six out of 37 appearances this season and has visibly lost confidence with each passing week. Richarlison, a £60million summer signing, has had an injury-riddled season and has failed to score in the league, only managing to score two goals. Dejan Kulusevski, the fourth key striker, also only managed to score twice, with Conte's tactic of relying on individual talent not working out. For the final 10 matches of the season, Tottenham will need to provide Kane with much-needed support if they hope to succeed.

Although Tottenham is currently in fourth place, Conte's departure might seem surprising since Newcastle is close behind, and Liverpool and Brighton are also competing for a spot in the Champions League. Tottenham hasn't won any trophies in 15 consecutive seasons, and just finishing in the top four might not be enough for some fans. Failing to do so would be a major setback. However, making it into the Champions League may convince Kane to stay on the team, and the club would receive a significant financial boost that could be used to make summer transfers. In April, Tottenham faces challenging games against Newcastle, Manchester United, and Liverpool, but they also have six matches against lower-ranked teams. Fourth place is certainly up for grabs.
