The Everton football team was given the largest punishment ever seen in the Premier League due to their violation of the regulations regarding profitability and sustainability.

Football clubs in the Premier League have a limit where they can incur a loss of £105 million ($130 million) within 3 years, or else they might be penalized.

Everton acknowledged that they had violated the rules for the upcoming 2021/22 season, but were taken aback by the seriousness of the penalty issued by an impartial commission.

The vastness of the situation has left many within the football community in a state of disbelief," remarked Sean Dyche, the manager of Everton.

The club has used the word "disproportionate", which has left us feeling a bit unfair.

By taking away points from Everton, they have fallen to the 19th spot on the table and now their continuous presence in the top league for 70 years is threatened.

Before the game and early on in the match, Goodison Park was full of signs displaying the Premier League symbol and the term "dishonest".

On Friday, supporters of Everton demonstrated outside the headquarters of the Premier League in London.

Additionally, there were more protests taking place in the vicinity of Goodison Stadium prior to the start of the game.

The Brick pub had a large banner displayed on its side that stated "corruption can be found wherever there is power, greed and money."

The core of Everton's objections revolves around the method through which the penalty was imposed.

The Mayor of Manchester, who is also a season ticket holder for Everton, wrote a letter to the Premier League leaders calling the disciplinary procedure "regulatory malpractice." This letter was released on Sunday.

Before the charges were made against the club, Burnham expressed disapproval about the Premier League's absence of penalties policy. Additionally, he criticized the league for trying to implement one during the ongoing Everton case in August of this year.

Many people are doubtful about how serious this punishment is, especially since the Premier League is opposing the creation of an unbiased governing body for soccer in England.

In my opinion, we have been intentionally selected due to the menace of having a regulator that is self-governing. It is clear and unjust," said 35-year-old Everton supporter Matt Hall to AFP while supporters gathered to demonstrate outside of the stadium.

People are also feeling angry because the investigation into more than 100 instances of English football champions Manchester City breaking financial rules between 2009 and 2018 is taking a long time with little progress.

Chelsea may also be subjected to disciplinary actions for allegedly violating the financial fair play regulations while Roman Abramovich was the head honcho at Stamford Bridge.

After the Premier League made the announcement that they will have to face a 10-point penalty, Everton released a statement saying that they will be watching closely any other situations involving the Premier League's guidelines on profits and finances.

"Why choose us? Why not City or Chelsea?" expressed another fan, Patrick Garner, aged 45. "Everton seems like an effortless victim but we won't tolerate it without a fight."
