Everton star Dele Alli 'overwhelmed' by response after talking about being sexually abused as a child

Dele Alli, a prominent footballer from Everton, expressed how grateful he feels for receiving massive support after opening up about his experience of being sexually assaulted during his childhood. He mentioned that he feels a lot of emotions seeing so many people showing compassion and solidarity towards him.

Last year, the individual who is 28 years old made a statement recalling the abuse they experienced when they were six years old. They also mentioned that they began selling drugs at the age of eight, which resulted in several mental health challenges in the future.

He additionally mentioned that he had fought against a dependency on sedatives that resulted in a period of rehabilitation treatment.

Prince William showed admiration for the English national and Premier League superstar following his interview, commending him as a "courageous and motivating" individual.

During his appearance on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, he mentioned that during the interview, he expressed that his goal was to assist just one individual.

I did it for personal reasons, but if it made a positive impact on at least one individual, that was my ultimate goal. The response and encouragement I received surpassed my expectations.

"It was truly remarkable to witness the number of individuals it assisted and undoubtedly, I take great pride in it."

In July, Alli shared with Gary Neville's YouTube channel, The Overlap, that his life took a turn for the better when he was taken in by an incredible family at just twelve years old.

"If it was God who made humans, then they must have been incredible creatures who have been immensely supportive to me."

Alli hasn't been in the game since his loan stint at Besiktas was ended early February last year because of his hip trouble. A groin concern has also postponed his comeback to the Everton team.

He mentioned that opening up about his difficulties has taught him significant insights about himself that have supported him during the challenging phase.

"When I was interviewed, I expressed that it was the greatest I had ever felt during that period when I left rehab and was preparing to play again," he further stated.

It was quite a challenge for me to understand the real meaning of patience through my injury. The experience was not a smooth one, as there were many unique experiences that could either be positive or negative. However, learning the value of patience was crucial, and I had no choice but to acquire that skill.

Before this injury, I would have said that the biggest mental challenge is to recover from an injury. My previous injury lasted eight weeks which felt like a really long time.

Without the summer experience, enduring this situation for more than a year would have been extremely challenging for me.

I'm currently dealing with an injury, but fortunately, it seems like it's nearing its end. Interestingly, I've found that the pain I'm experiencing as a result of the injury has actually been helpful in motivating me.

"I had to grasp the concept of patience, but it has heightened my eagerness to return."
