Conway scores two as Bristol City thrash Blackburn

Bristol City vs Blackburn Rovers

Tommy Conway increased the lead of Bristol City against Blackburn by scoring another goal from the penalty spot. This happened just eight minutes later than his first goal that brought their score to 1-0.

Blackburn Rovers are experiencing more worries about being relegated from the Championship after a terrible loss against Bristol City, who scored five goals.

The team led by John Eustace had won and drawn their previous two matches, but were given a harsh lesson in finishing during their recent game at Ashton Gate. As a result, they are currently only ahead of the relegation zone by three points.

The team known as City managed to score two goals before the first half of the match ended, all thanks to Tommy Conway's double goal. This brought his total goals of the season to 11, a great achievement.

He achieved his second objective by scoring a penalty kick, which was awarded after Dominic Hyam recklessly caused a foul on Mark Sykes.

Anis Mehmeti replaced another player and scored the third goal for Bristol City in the 73rd minute which made it impossible for Rovers to come back and win.

Conway had only managed to score once in his past 18 games, but he was close to achieving a hat-trick. Unfortunately, he was substituted just before his team was granted their second penalty due to Kyle McFadzean's handball.

After the player that had been substituted out, Nakhi Wells came on and scored a goal from the penalty spot, bringing the score to 4-0.

In the additional seven minutes of playtime, Wells managed to score the fifth goal for City by tapping in Cornick's pass that travelled across the box at a low level.

The team in charge began the match in an impressive way, creating a tense situation for Blackburn during the first four minutes.

During the game, Haydon Roberts passed the ball to Scott Twine, who attempted to deceive Blackburn's goalkeeper Aynsley Pears with a shot but unfortunately missed the target.

In the 24th minute, Conway caused a stir in Ashton Gate and made the audience stand up.

The forward sprinted after a ball that was kicked long from the left side, causing Hyam to feel stressed. The leader of the Rovers team had two options – either knock the ball out of bounds or pass it back to the goalkeeper. However, he chose neither and his weak kick out of danger gave Conway the opportunity to gain possession of the ball and score a goal by shooting it low past Pears.

Hyam made another unfortunate mistake just seven minutes later by clumsily tackling Sykes. As a result, Conway was able to successfully score his and City's second goal of the game from a penalty kick.

In the 72nd minute, Blackburn had an opportunity to score when Sammie Szmodics, who is the leading scorer in the Championship, evaded two defenders from City. Unfortunately, he missed the goal by shooting wide.

There was a small chance that Rovers could make a comeback, but unfortunately, it didn't last long. Hyam made another mistake, which led to Mehmeti being able to break away and score a goal past Pears. This caused the team and fans to feel extremely disappointed.

City achieved their fourth goal with only 12 minutes left on the timer. Kyle McFadzean prevented an incoming cross with his hand, which left referee Bobby Madley with no choice but to grant City their second penalty during the evening.

Wells kicked the ball from the penalty spot directly towards the middle of the goal, while Pears jumped towards the right side of the goal.

Injury time was the moment when the City sub scored their fifth goal, which made the situation worse for Rovers in terms of goal difference.

Winning the game has given Bristol City, who are currently in the middle of the table, a positive outlook towards the upcoming season.

Blackburn Rovers have a difficult stretch of four matches ahead of them, which kicks off with their upcoming away game against Leeds United, who are currently competing for promotion.

During an interview with BBC Radio Bristol, Tommy Conway, who plays as a striker for Bristol City, expressed his thoughts.

It took a while, but we finally achieved a victory with five goals scored on our home turf. I'm happy about our success in this manner.

Our playing style focuses on taking charge from the start and seizing any opportunities that come through mistakes. Last night, our team successfully executed this strategy.

When I got substituted and couldn't take the opportunity to score three goals with Manchester City's second penalty:

Some of my teammates were glancing in my direction and I said in a teasing manner, "Why did the coach decide to substitute me?" Regardless, putting the team's success above my own is the priority.

I'm extremely excited for Nakhi Wells and Anis Mehmeti to achieve their goals, especially because they could have felt discouraged after not playing on Saturday. I strongly commend their determination.

During an interview with BBC Radio Lancashire, John Eustace, the manager of Blackburn Rovers, shared some insights.

I'm extremely let down - that's not our usual behavior. During my time here, we've exhibited a lot of determination and resilience, but for some reason, we failed to do that tonight.

Last night was a tough lesson for us to learn. Our loyal supporters made the effort to come all the way to Bristol, but unfortunately, we disappointed them.

There's no point in fixating on it for too long. I reckon the supporters can recognize the effort we've put in during the previous 10 matches, and it's essential that we remain united.

"We will experience both good and bad moments, and tonight's experience was not a good one."
