Crooked House fire: Heavy police presence on scene after Black Country pub blaze

The Crooked House

Firefighters and law enforcement personnel are still present at the site of an extensive fire that engulfed the renowned Crooked House pub in Himley.

The B4176 Himley Road has been closed from Brick Kiln lane to High Arcal Road to prevent curious individuals from visiting the famous Black Country attraction.

A fire was initially mentioned at approximately 10pm yesterday evening, and teams labored throughout the night to control it.

There are many police officers at the scene while they start looking into what caused the fire.

The Crooked House has held a Grade II listed status for over six decades, starting from the year 1960.

The tavern, which was purchased by Marston's in the final days of July, had an estimated value of £67,000.

According to reports, it is highly improbable that The Crooked House will open its doors to drinkers again, as it is planned to be utilized for a different, yet unspecified purpose.

The Crooked House gained its popularity due to its intriguing ability of making coins and marbles appear to roll uphill across the counter.

The previous month, the management had no choice but to shut down the establishment after burglars caused substantial financial loss amounting to thousands of pounds.

A few days after the sale became public, a request was initiated to preserve the structure.
