'A great shame' as Crooked House pub set to be redeveloped for 'other use'

The Crooked House

Iconic Black Country pub The Crooked House has been purchased for a different purpose and is unlikely to welcome patrons back for a drink.

As stated in a recent update on the Stourbridge and Halesowen CAMRA social media page, the establishment in Himley, which has stood tall since 1765, has been purchased by Marston's, the previous owners.

The unique establishment, which experienced damage from mining subsidence but was reinforced in the 1940s, was previously known as the most tilted pub in Britain. During its prime, it drew visitors from around the world. It is situated in a remote area near Himley, just off the B4176, and can be accessed via a lengthy gravel pathway.

The blog talks about an old farmhouse that gained popularity due to a unique phenomenon where coins and marbles appeared to roll uphill along the counter. This distinctive establishment was recently put up for sale, along with 60 other pubs from the Marston's group, and it had an asking price of £675,000.

The Crooked House has faced challenges in attracting the same level of customers as before. Additionally, its location has become a hotspot for illegal waste dumpers. The access road leading to the establishment is also in need of repairs. Due to these reasons, Marstons, the owners, have shown hesitancy in keeping it operational.

Members of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) and people who love pubs showed their sadness on the Facebook page regarding the closure of the well-known establishment as a pub.

Sue Sach expressed her disappointment in seeing a valuable pub being repurposed for something unrelated to its original purpose.

Philip Watkin expressed his disappointment with the unfavorable choice made by this unpleasant organization.

A representative from Marston's expressed contentment in confirming that The Crooked House has been sold successfully. Unfortunately, we cannot provide any information regarding the buyer or the amount paid at this moment.
