It's currently 9:35 p.m. Eastern Time on March 13th, 2024.

On February 27, Michael Culver, a popular British actor famous for his unforgettable death sequence in Star Wars series, passed away at the age of 85.

Alliance Agents and Mr. Culver's agent, Thomas Bowington, both announced his passing on Tuesday. They did not disclose the cause of death, but Mr. Bowington mentioned that Mr. Culver had been battling cancer for multiple years. The announcement was posted on social media.

For more than half a century, he had a successful career as an actor, performing both on screen and in theater productions. He starred in various productions, such as the TV adaptation of "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" and the 1984 movie "A Passage to India."

In 1980, he left his strongest mark on the entertainment scene, particularly in his short stint as Captain Needa in “The Empire Strikes Back,” the second installment of the iconic film series “Star Wars.” Captain Needa, who failed to keep tabs on Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon, begged forgiveness from the menacing Darth Vader, who unleashed his wrath and killed him with just a simple gesture of clenching his fist.

"I forgive you, Captain Needa," Vader declares, circling the captain's lifeless form and gesturing for his subordinates to remove it.

Mr. Culver had a role in two movies of the "James Bond" franchise alongside the actor Sean Connery. The movies were titled "From Russia With Love" and "Thunderball."

According to Mr. Bowington, Michael Culver was born in London on June 16, 1938. His dad, Ronald Culver, was also an actor and his son, Roderic Culver, followed in their footsteps and became an actor as well.

According to his representative, Mr. Culver took part in numerous productions of Shakespeare's works and frequently collaborated with director Anthony Page from Britain.

His wife, Amanda, and his kids, Roderic, Sue and Justin Culver are the survivors after Mr. Culver's passing.

Towards the end of his life, Mr. Culver decided to prioritize politics and stopped pursuing acting. It's possible that if Mr. Culver had not become an actor, he may have pursued a career in politics instead, according to Mr. Bowington.

According to his agency's statement, he continued to participate in Star Wars fan gatherings, particularly one held in Chicago during 2019.

According to the statement, he was speechless upon witnessing his line of customers, which amounted to almost 200 individuals.
