Mandisa, an artist in the Christian music genre who competed on the TV show "American Idol" and received a Grammy prize for her record titled 'Overcomer' in 2013, has passed away at the age of 47 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The person who spoke on behalf of the artist informed The Associated Press that the artist passed away at her residence in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday. The spokesperson also stated that it is not yet clear what led to Mandisa's death.

Mandisa, whose complete name was Mandisa Lynn Hundley, was born in the vicinity of Sacramento, California. During her upbringing, she used to sing at her local church. She attained fame after securing the ninth position on "American Idol" in 2006.

After departing, host Ryan Seacrest complimented the vocalist by stating that she possessed a remarkable essence during her appearance on the program.

Mandisa made progress and put out her first album, "True Beauty," in 2007. The album was nominated for a Grammy award for best pop and contemporary gospel album that same year.

After that, she proceeded to launch five additional records, one of which was centered around Christmas.

Back in 2014, she was able to take home a Grammy award for having the best contemporary Christian music album titled "Overcomer," which was her fifth record.

Mandisa was candid about her battles with depression. She unveiled a book titled "Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God's Joy" in 2022, discussing her encounters with intense depression, problems regarding weight, the COVID-19 outbreak, and her trust.

Last Friday, K-Love, a Christian radio station, honored the singer by acknowledging her vulnerability and willingness to share her struggles with fans. This inspired others to open up about their own challenges.
