London Marathon: Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir wins race in women's-only world record time

Peres Jepchirchir, who is an Olympic champion, emerged victorious in the London Marathon, setting a new world record time in a women-only marathon. The race was intensely competitive and exciting.

As she turned onto The Mall, the runner from Kenya started sprinting towards the finish line and was able to win the race with a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 16 seconds. This time was faster than the previous world record for a women's-only race, which was set by Mary Jepkosgei Keitany in London in 2017 with a time of 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 1 second.

As the race drew to a close, four runners had a chance of winning. Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 23 seconds. Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya followed closely behind, finishing in third place with a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 24 seconds. Megertu Alemu came fourth in the race.

Alexander Munyao, a Kenyan, clinched the victory in the men's race finishing in an impressive time of 2 hours, 4 minutes and 1 second. He was followed closely by the legendary track athlete, Kenenisa Bekele who, despite being 41 years old, finished with a remarkable time of 2 hours, 4 minutes and 15 seconds.

Bekele, the Ethiopian runner who won Olympic gold in the 10,000m race 20 years ago, was trying to win his first London marathon. However, Munyao, who is 27 years old, managed to pull ahead of his opponent when there were only three miles left in the race.

Emile Cairess from Britain managed to secure the third position by completing the run in 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 46 seconds. Simultaneously, Mahamed Mahamed from the same country snatched the fourth position by completing the race in 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 5 seconds.

At the age of 38, Marcel Hug achieved an outstanding record by winning the men's wheelchair contest for the fourth time in a row, managing an impressive time of 1:28:33. This latest triumph marks his fifth overall victory in the competition.

In the London Marathon, Daniel Romanchuk from America achieved the second position by completing it in 1 hour, 29 minutes and 6 seconds. David Weir from Britain, on the other hand, managed to secure the third position by completing his 25th consecutive London Marathon with a timing of 1 hour, 45 minutes and 51 seconds.

Another Swiss athlete, Catherine Debrunner, emerged victorious at the women's wheelchair race with a significant lead. She also managed to break the course record, marking a remarkable win in 2022.

The individual who is 29 years of age concluded the competition in 1 hour, 38 minutes, and 54 seconds, while their Swiss competitor Manuela Schar finished second with a time of 1 hour, 45 minutes.

Tatyana McFadden, a contestant from the United States, secured the third spot in the race with a time of 1 hour, 45 minutes, and 51 seconds. The top-performing British runner was Eden Rainbow-Cooper, who won the Boston Marathon and crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, and 39 seconds.
