'You stay classy, Leeds?' Anchorman star Will Ferrell invests in Championship club

Leeds United has gained another famous individual as an investor - this time it is the well-known comedian Will Ferrell who has joined the likes of Russell Crowe from Gladiator and Michael Phelps, the Olympic swimmer.

The male celebrity who is famous for his acting on movies from Hollywood, aged 56, recently acquired a share in the owners of a club called "Championship" through their company called "49ers Enterprises". Alongside him, professional golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are also among the shareholders of this company.

Ferrell, who is renowned for his humorous performances in movies such as Elf, Anchorman, and Blades Of Glory, already shares ownership of the professional soccer team Los Angeles FC.

During a six-day excursion with his buddies, he disclosed his affection for English football by attending several matches throughout the country. One of the games he witnessed was Manchester City's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa last season, and he even had a chat with Sky Sports analysts, including Gary Neville, before the game.

Ferrell, known for his role as the head of toy corporation Mattel in the hit movie Barbie last summer, starred alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. He was also seen sharing a beer with some supporters before witnessing Wrexham triumph over Wealdstone in the National League.

Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who are both 47 years old, became the owners of the Welsh club in 2021, the team has garnered international recognition. This is mainly due to the fact that Reynolds is a well-known actor from his role in Deadpool, and McElhenney is the creator of the popular TV series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Wrexham has achieved back-to-back promotions, and their journey is being documented in the third season of the Disney+ series, Welcome To Wrexham.

On Saturday, Leeds failed to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League despite playing at home and losing 2-1 to Southampton. Meanwhile, Ipswich emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield, earning them a spot in the top flight after a 22-year absence.

The team led by Daniel Farke is currently striving to make a comeback to the top tier by means of play-offs, and is set to confront Norwich in the initial leg of their semi-final at Carrow Road on the upcoming Sunday.

Spieth, who has won three major tournaments, has announced that he and his fellow American compatriot, Thomas, have purchased minority shares in the club in the previous summer.
