Derby delight for Leeds against tame Huddersfield

Leeds United

On Tuesday, Huddersfield lost by giving up four goals during the first 55 minutes of playing at their home game against Cardiff. There was also another game where they were losing 4-0 after only 45 minutes of playing against Leeds.

Leeds, who were in third place, won their match against Huddersfield in the Yorkshire derby.

Dan James and Crysencio Summerville each scored two goals during the first half, leading their team to a fourth consecutive win on their home turf. Michal Helik managed to score a consolation goal, but it was not enough to turn the tide in their favor.

The Terriers had been defeated in just two of their previous fourteen matches against Yorkshire rivals and had managed to prevent their opponents from scoring in their last three matches.

However, Darren Moore's team didn't perform well and are still only one position above the relegation zone.

Daniel Farke switched up his Leeds team for their latest match after their defeat against Stoke in midweek, opting to bring back James and Summerville while also bringing in Jamie Shackleton and Glen Kamara for the game.

Moore decided to modify three positions from the lineup that suffered a 4-0 defeat in their home game against Cardiff on Tuesday. Tom Edwards, Tom Lees and Brahima Diarra were all selected to join the squad.

The striker from Town, Delano Burgzorg, took a shot that was close to the base of Illan Meslier's goal post within the first 10 minutes of the game. However, it didn't lead to any more success and Joel Piroe's attempt from close range was denied due to offside. Later, Leeds started to play better.

After 20 minutes, Georginio Rutter made a wonderful pass that allowed Summerville to push forward from the middle of the field. Summerville then found James on the right side of the field, who expertly curled a fantastic low shot into the bottom corner of the goal from just outside the penalty area. This goal broke the previous deadlock.

Before the first half ended, the score was 2-0. Piroe passed the ball to Summerville who maneuvered through the left of the box. He then shot a low ball that went past Lee Nicholls, who didn't see the ball coming.

Following another swift counter-attack, the third goal was scored merely three minutes later. Piroe and Rutter collaborated to liberate Summerville, who then passed the ball towards James. James, charging forward, received the ball and expertly kicked it towards the goal from a comparable spot as his first one.

In the first half's stopping time, Rutter dashed down the left side and later passed it back to Summerville. Summerville pretended to shoot with his right foot and finally kicked the ball with his left foot into the bottom corner of the goalpost.

The team from the town decided to substitute Edwards and Diarra during halftime and showed better performance in the second half. However, the team from Leeds also decreased their efforts during the game.

After being passed the ball, Burgzorg was surrounded by opposing players and lost control. Later on, Helik managed to score a goal that did not make a significant difference in the game. This happened when Meslier failed to catch a shot from Sorba Thomas that was moving in an unpredictable way from a far distance. The goal was made by the player from Poland, who has now scored four goals this season - more than any other player on the team.

During an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, Daniel Farke, the manager of Leeds, expressed his thoughts.

In my opinion, you could easily observe the immense significance of the victory to the players. Firstly, winning the local derby brought about a great deal of joy, and secondly, it allowed the team to demonstrate an appropriate response to their setback at Stoke. The team executed this brilliantly.

The first half of the game was extremely exciting and there were some incredible offensive plays. We had control of the game and created many opportunities. Although we could have done better by capitalizing on our advantage, it wasn't a major issue to complain about at half-time.

"We may have given them a little too much leeway in a couple of instances, but overall we are satisfied with the outcome and the effort put forth. Our performance was exceptional considering it was our third game in a span of seven days and we had a day less to recuperate."

During an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, Darren Moore, who is in charge of Huddersfield, made a statement.

The current situation is unpleasant, as losing four points today let us down since it was an important game. We were aiming to bounce back after Tuesday's loss by playing well today.

There was a crucial point in the game when we had a fantastic opportunity to score and take the lead, but unfortunately, we were unable to capitalize on it. However, it was disheartening when our opponents managed to score two rapid goals immediately after, which ultimately shifted the game in their favor. During half-time, we had to strengthen our team's defense, and as a result, the second half of the match was lackluster.

I don't want to come up with reasons. I simply believed that there were moments when we could have defended better, and I am fully accountable for it.
