The spouse of Julie Goodyear expressed his distress over witnessing the gradual deterioration of her health due to dementia.

Last year, it was announced that the famous 81-year-old performer, who is most recognized for portraying barmaid Bet Lynch in Coronation Street, was diagnosed with dementia following a period of experiencing memory loss.

Scott Brand, Goodyear's spouse for 17 years, has expressed his emotions regarding her health and the challenges he faces when witnessing her health decline.

He expressed to The Mirror how he longed for the previous version of his spouse, who was a joyous individual with an exuberant persona that brought happiness to any location she visited. He also reminisced about her unforgettable grin that illuminated every space she entered.

It's really tough for me to see Julie gradually losing her memory. She finds it difficult to identify individuals and refers to everyone as 'Scott'.

Brand, the fourth spouse of Goodyear, mentioned that she changed her usual style as a result of alterations to her cognitive capacities.

He said: "Julie has always been very fashionable and never went out without makeup. However, she no longer wears lipstick or makeup, and she doesn't care about clothes anymore, especially not leopard print."

In June, it was made public through a statement by Brand that the soap actor had been diagnosed with dementia. This announcement was on behalf of Goodyear.

He penned down: "My beloved spouse and I have had to confront this devastating diagnosis."

Regrettably, Julie has been experiencing memory loss for an extended period of time and we have been consulting with medical professionals for guidance and help. Unfortunately, we have discovered that her situation cannot be reversed and her condition will continue to deteriorate, and potentially escalate quickly.

"We have decided to share Julie's diagnosis with the public because she enjoys socializing with friends and dining out. However, she often gets recognized by her fans who love to meet her, but this can confuse her when she's tired."

Julie Goodyear played the role of Bet Lynch in the popular soap opera Coronation Street.

In 1966, Goodyear made her debut as Bet Lynch on the popular show Coronation Street. She only showed up in nine episodes and then took a break before coming back as a recurring character in 1970.

In 1995, she decided to abandon the programme that she had been working on for 25 years. As a result of her dedication and hard work, she was recognized for her lifetime achievements at the first National Television Awards ceremony held that same year.

Bet was portrayed by Goodyear in numerous episodes of the show before her final appearance in 2003.

Following his departure from Coronation Street, the performer continued to make appearances on television, frequently in unscripted programs such as I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, The Biggest Loser VIP Edition, and Big Brother VIP.

She was last seen on TV in 2018 when she was interviewed for a documentary called Coronation Street at Christmas.
