Humphrey Ker talks Wrexham AFC on 'Sacked in the Morning'

Wrexham

The executive director of WREXHAM has revealed everything about the town in an interview with a BBC podcast.

Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club at the start of 2021, Humphrey Ker has been recognized by many supporters. He was chosen for the role and has been appearing on a regular basis.

He's been a sought-after figure in the hit Welcome to Wrexham show, frequently asked to spill the beans on the happenings not shown on screen at Wrexham.

This week, Humphrey talked to the 'Sacked in the Morning' podcast hosted by Amy Irons and Craig Levein, who are based in Scotland, and the conversation has carried on.

When talking about the prominent proprietors of the club, he stated: "The excitement displayed by Rob and Ryan is contagious and authentic. Once people converse with them, they immediately recognize that these individuals are sincere and serious, and this is not some sort of joke or amusing stunt."

We're all deeply passionate about it, it's something we adore, we have a profound fixation with it, and we long to be involved. It's not a trivial matter, it's not a game, and it's not merely a source of amusement for us.

Humphrey mentioned how Rob, known for his role in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, played a vital role in bringing the current manager, Phil Parkinson, into the team. It's worth noting that Rob was initially not interested in football but still managed to contribute to this significant decision.

According to him, he convinced Rob to develop a liking for the sport when the Covid-19 outbreak occurred, and encouraged him to view the documentary "Sunderland Till I Die."

Humphrey remarked, "I believe that really surprised him because it demonstrated the connections the UK has with its football clubs. He viewed it, he enjoyed it, and he suggested, as is expected, that we acquire a football team."

Have you seen Great British Bake Off? Do you ever get the urge to purchase a bakery after watching the show? That's basically what he decided to do.

The co-owners of Wrexham AFC, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are featured in a picture taken by Gemma Thomas.

Talking about the club's owners and their goals, Humphrey expressed, "It would be satisfactory for us if we could make a place for ourselves in the Championship. However, Rob and Ryan's objective is to make it to the Premier League."

The notion of Wrexham surpassing Norwich or Sunderland to accomplish that feat would be impressive, but it is something we are striving for.

All of our players have the phone numbers of Rob and Ryan. They send them text messages, online messages, they meet them in person, and they even visit them in the locker room.

Humphrey also disclosed that the WhatsApp conversations among the key members of Wrexham AFC encompassed not just football matters and creating fresh uniforms, but also included relocating a sewage system while constructing the new Kop.

According to Humphrey, we're all essentially supporters who have been given the opportunity to manage a soccer team, albeit to a limited degree.

Talking about how Rob and Ryan taking over has affected the community, he said: "Every day, a large number of people from different countries visit the Racecourse."

In December of last year, I had a chat with Wayne Jones, the owner of The Turf. He mentioned that they were receiving a high influx of American visitors, specifically around 60 to 70 tourists daily.

People from various parts of the world such as Americans, Australians, and Brazilians have frequented our place.

Talking about the sale of the club's merchandise, he mentioned that they have already sold 35,000 units this season, and have placed a new order for 20,000 more before Christmas. These are impressive sales numbers for a club at the level of the Championship.
