Willie Limond: Former British champion boxer dies aged 45

Willie Limond, a former boxing champion of Britain and the Commonwealth, has passed away at the age of 45.

It's been reported that he became sick earlier this month while getting ready for a fight.

On Monday, Jake announced on Instagram that his father had passed away at approximately 3am.

"He continued to battle for nearly 10 days. Such a brave warrior."

From 1999 until 2023, the individual from Scotland was victorious in 42 out of 48 of the bouts that he competed in as a professional athlete. Additionally, 13 of these victories were attained through the method of knockout.

In the year 2004, he was the recipient of the EBU European Union super-featherweight title and two years later, he secured the Commonwealth lightweight title for a year. He then won the Commonwealth super-lightweight title from 2013 to 2014 and finished off his victories by grabbing the British super-lightweight title in 2014.

Limond, who initially pursued a career in soccer, participated in five league games for Albion Rovers during the latter part of the 1990s.

St Andrew's Sporting Club released a message expressing their saddened and shocked state due to the passing of their dear friend, Willie Limond.

Woodhouse, who lost to Limond in a match for the British light-welterweight title at Glasgow's Braehead Arena in 2014, wrote on social media: "I am deeply saddened to learn about Willie Limond's death. He was an excellent boxer and an amazing person."
