The team from Washington DC declared that they had come to a mutual agreement with the 37-year-old ex-manager of Derby County to part ways. This decision was made after the team was knocked out of MLS play-off contention on Saturday evening.

The club's chief executive, Jason Levien, made a statement saying that they have had a conversation with Wayne and both parties have decided that it is the most suitable option for them to go their separate ways for now.

We appreciate everything he has accomplished for our club and the sport of soccer in Washington, DC. He served as a DC United player and team leader and more recently as our coach.

"He is still a significant member of the DC United community and a respected and beloved companion."

Rooney assumed the position in July of the previous year.

Before joining Derby in January 2020, he had played for the club for a year and a half.

During a media briefing, Rooney stated that it was the appropriate moment for him to depart.

He stated that he has exhausted all efforts in attempting to place this club in the playoffs.

It isn't just one event that occurred. It's related to the appropriate moment.

In my opinion, it's fitting for me to return to England now, primarily to visit my relatives. It's been quite a while since I've last seen them.

So, what can we expect in the future? Will there be any chances for me? I have come across numerous articles in the press, but I haven't secured any new projects yet.

There are rumors that Rooney might transfer to Birmingham City. He has a record of scoring 53 goals in 120 games for his national team, England, and has won multiple prestigious awards with Manchester United.

The team from the West Midlands, which is owned by Americans, is presently in the play-off positions for the Championship under the guidance of manager John Eustace.

According to reports, if Eustace departs, Rooney is likely to be one of the top candidates.
