Rangers booked their spot in the semi-finals of Scottish Cup with a bit to spare.

Raith Rovers didn't prove to be much of an obstacle despite a stubborn start from the Fifers, and now Michael Beale will take his team back to Hampden at the end of April.

He could be handed a another crack at Celtic in the draw for the last four. That takes place on Monday night, with Inverness CT, Ayr United and Falkirk also in the mix ahead of the final last eight tie.

Connor Goldson broke the Championship side's resistance three minutes before the break, heading home a Borna Barisic corner.

It was comfortable from then on in, but Ryan Nolan gave the hosts a helping hand when he sliced a James Tavernier cross up and over Jamie MacDonald into his own net for 2-0.

Scott Arfield was introduced from the bench and he added some gloss with a late third to round off a routine afternoon for Michael Beale's men, who are now just two wins away from retaining the trophy they won last year.

Audacious chip

Marvin Bartley has been left chuckling over former colleague Isma Goncalves' attempt from his own half.

The Raith striker almost changed this game entirely after two minutes when he spotted McGregor off his line, narrowly missing with the audacious effort.

Acting as a Viaplay pundit, the Queen of the South manager who worked wih Goncalcves at Livingston said:

He said to me that it was a big chance for him, he just spotted him off his line, brilliant.

Instantly he just hits it, he was off celebrating already!

Thompson critical of Colak

Former Rangers and St Mirren striker Steven Thomspson has claimed that it was "a day to forget" for Antonio Colak, adding that he was ‘sloppy’ in some parts of his play.

He told BBC Sportsound:

A day to forget for Colak. It’s not been a good day for Antonio Colak, he’s not really been involved at all and some of his play was quite sloppy.

Three down, one to go

Rangers, Celtic and Inverness CT will find out their Scottish Cup semi-final opponents after Falkirk and Ayr United go head-to-head in the final clash of the round tomorrow night.

Beale issues Morelos demand

Rangers manager Michael Beale has admitted he wants to see "a little bit more" from striker Alfredo Morelos.

The last 14 games he has seven goals, he's performed. But I like Antonio [Colak's] energy.

15:19Robbie Hanratty

League duty the focus

Raith held their own for a period of the game but ultimately fell short to Rangers' Premiership quality.

It's now back to cementing Championship status for Ian Murray's men, who currently sit 10 points ahead of the relegation spot and eight off a play-off place.

Goldson's verdict

Rangers defender Connor Goldson has given his reaction to Viaplay after Rangers progressed into the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Raith defended well. It was tough to break them down. We want to keep this trophy here at Ibrox. We need to do all we can, we just want to keep winning football matches. We've been on a really good run.

Rangers break Union Bears banner silence

Rangers have revealed how they refused to allow an “offensive” banner aimed at Police Scotland into Ibrox Stadium ahead of their Scottish Cup clash against Raith Rovers which resulted in a boycott of ultras group the Union Bears.

Michael Beale’s men strolled to victory against the Fifers but there was the sound of silence for the usually raucous part of the Broomloan Road stand where the supporters group are usually housed in the stadium.

The talking points

Rangers booked a third trip to Hampden this season as they eased into Monday's Scottish Cup semi-final draw with a comfortable 3-0 win over Raith Rovers at Ibrox Stadium.

It wasn't a vintage display by Michael Beale's men but they were never in any serious danger of being on the end of a giant killing against the gritty Championship side.

14:52KEY EVENT

Full-time

It looked like it might take a while, but in the end of was a copmfortable afternoon for Rangers as they cruised through to the semi-fianls of the Scottish Cup.

Connor Goldson broke the deadlock not long before half-time and a Ryan Dolan own goal made sure that there would be no slip ups at Ibrox after the break.

Scott Arfield came off the bench to wrap things up, and the focus will nw be on Monday's draw to see if it's Celtic, Inverness CT, Ayr United or Falkirk in the last four.

Save!

Morelos looks to get in on the act.

His shot is well struck, but MacDonald stands up well to deny the Colombian as he tried to find the corner.

14:47KEY EVENT

GOAL!

The victory is sealed and it's Scott Arfield on target.

A good move sees Cantwell picked out in the box and the midfield men cleverly moves the ball onto Arfield, who's in a better position.

He's able to pick his spot past MacDonald as the Gers match Celtic's goal tally from yesterday and are safely though to the last four of the Scottish Cup.

Raith this time. Adam Masson makes way for Greig Young.

Why UB banner was removed

A small selection of the Union Bears leave their seats empty (Image: SNS Group)

The Union Bears had their banner intended for display in their Scottish Cup clash with Raith Rovers removed due to its "highly offensive" nature, Record Sport understands.

Usually a vocal presence in the lower left tier of the Broomloan stand at Ibrox, the fans’ group boycotted the game after they had their message removed by the club. Instead the supporters stood outside the ground as Michael Beale's men commenced action against Championship opposition.

14:33Ross Pilcher

Roof of the net

Yilmaz tries to send in across for Colak.

However, he misshits it and macDonald has to make sure is positiong is right to make sure the ball lands on top of his net rather than in it.

14:32Ross Pilcher

Over

Arfield forces a save from MacDonald at his near post.

Cantwell then tries his luck from distance but his effort flies well over.

Now a case of how many Rangers can score before full-time with Raith trying to keep the score down.

Suspect both will be happy enough to get through this one without any damage - Rangers to their players, Raith to their confidence.

14:28Ross Pilcher

Chance!

Ross is in on goal seconds after coming off.

Raith's best move of the game sees Dylan Easton play Ross in with a lovely reverse pass.

But the sub is caught in two minds between shotting or squaring to Connolly and Rangers scramble it away.

In the aftermath, Brad Spencer is booked for a cynical foul.

14:27Ross Pilcher

Sub

Raith make their second change. Isma Goncalves off, Ethan Ross on.

14:24Ross Pilcher

Triple sub

Michael Beale is shaking things up.

John Souttar is set for his first meaningful first team run out since August after making his comeback as a late sub against Kilmarnock last week.

Ridvan Yilmaz also makes his return to action alongside Scott Arfield.

Off go Barisic, Sakala and Goldson.

14:18KEY EVENT

GOAL!

Raith Rovers' Jamie MacDonald is dejected after Ryan Nolan scores an own goal to make it 2-0 Rangers

Another deflection and this time it's the right side of the post for Tavernier.

The skipper sends in a hopeful cross first time from the right and there's no danger as Ryan Nolan attempts to clear with his left foot.

Unfortunately for the Raith man, it loops high over Jamie MavcDonald and into the far corner.

That should be game over now and Rangers will surely join Celtic and Inverness in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

14:14Ross Pilcher

Off the post!

So clsoe to a second.

Another deep corner is sent into the box and Rangers keep it alive.

The balls falls to Tavernier and his initial shot doesn;t look too problematic for MacDonald.

but it takes a deflection off Lang which takes the raith keeper out of the equation, and he's relieved to see it hit the outside of the post and go behind for a corner.

14:12Ross Pilcher

Scrappy second half

The floodgates could still open, but it hasn't happened yet.

Rangers are still well on top with Raith seemingly still happy to sit in.

But the longer it;s only 1-0, the nervier things will get around Ibrox, especially if we move into the latter stages with such a narrow lead.

14:04Ross Pilcher

Restart!

The seconf half gets underway at Ibrox.

raith have made a change at the break. Liews Vaughan is on for Connor McBride.

13:50KEY EVENT

Half-time

Connor Goldson celebrates his goal to make it 1-0 with Todd Cantwell

The whistle goes and Rangers have one foot in the semi-finals.

It's been a grind at times, but they finally broke Raith Rovers' resistance shortly before half-time thanks to a Connor Goldson header.

Raith have offered next to nothing going forward, but will have to come out of their shell now if they want to stay in the cup.

Michael Beale will sense more goals for his team though, and you get the feeling that one more means it's job done for the holders.

We'll have the second half action coming up shortly.

13:44KEY EVENT

GOAL!

Connor Goldson

Rangers make the breakthrough.

Goldson had one booted off the line earlier and has been sloppy in possesion at times.

But he made no mistake with a towering header, rising highest to meet Barisic's corner and send the ball past MacDonald and in for a deserved Rangers lead.

Ian Murray will be frustrated his team have been undone by a set piece, especially so close to half-time.

13:42Ross Pilcher

Booking

Aidan Connolly is the first to have his name taken.

Kent looked to break and was cynically hauled back by the Raith man.

Union Bears on strike

The deserted Union Bears area (Image: Viaplay)

Rangers fans group The Union Bears have vacated their section at Ibrox in a protest against the club's board.

In last Saturday's match at home to Kilmarnock in the Premiership, they aimed a banner at the Govan hierarchy, claiming they have taken their 'eye off the ball' in the wake of title 55 almost two years ago. Emotions have run high since their Viaplay Cup final defeat to Celtic and they also trail their rivals by nine points in the Scottish Premiership.

As Rangers kicked off in their Scottish Cup quarter-final with Raith Rovers, it became apparent that the usually loud Union Bears area of the Broomloan Stand was empty.

13:34Ross Pilcher

Wide

Colak spurns a good opportunity.

Raskin sends a good cross into the box and the Croat stoops to try and guide it into the far corner.

He gets his angles wrong however, and it goes wide of the far post.
