Wissa double helps Brentford thrash Luton

Luton Town vs Brentford

. This campaign, Yoane Wissa has been the top scorer for Brentford in the Premier League. Notes: - "leading scorer" and "top scorer" have the same meaning in this context and can be used interchangeably - "campaign" is another word that can be used to refer to a season in a sports league

Brentford's Yoane Wissa scored twice to help his team secure a comfortable victory over Luton, increasing their lead over the relegation zone by 10 points.

Wissa received Bryan Mbeumo's pass and without hesitating, took a shot from outside the box which curved beautifully into the back of the net, putting his team on the scoreboard after 24 minutes had elapsed.

The forward from DR Congo scored his second goal just before the end of the first half. He was the quickest to react to a ball that was not properly cleared by Luton, following a low cross from Mbeumo.

Ethan Pinnock, who hadn't started a game since February 10th, scored a goal by heading in a corner kick from Sergio Reguilon in the 62nd minute, giving the Bees a strong advantage.

Luton appeared disappointed and lacked creativity when Keane Lewis-Potter had an opening at the opposite end of the pitch two minutes after, successfully scoring with the assist of Mbeumo's cross. Shortly after, the opposing team's substitute Kevin Schade finished off the game with another goal.

The team playing at their own ground hardly posed a challenge but got a fortunate opportunity during added time. The ball came to Luke Berry, who avoided the goalkeeper Mark Flekken and scored from a difficult position.

Brentford has moved up to 14th place and has a comfortable lead of 10 points from the relegation zone, with only four more games left to play. Crystal Palace, previously in 14th place, has been displaced. Meanwhile, Luton is still in 18th place and needs to gain at least one more point to avoid being relegated.

Hatters Suffer Another Crushing Defeat

Rob Edwards' team had very few opportunities to score, and they lacked cohesion on the field. It seems like their confidence in being able to stay in the Premier League for another year is dwindling.

They have a remaining count of four games to secure a spot above the relegation zone, however, they have only emerged victorious in one of their previous 13 matches in the league. Within that span, they have encountered nine losses and have given up a total of 10 goals in their most recent two games.

Luton faces a challenge with a lot of injured players. Nine senior players are receiving medical care, but the team usually plays well at their home stadium. However, they struggled in their last home game against Brentford.

Brentford's Survival In Sight

Thomas Frank's team has become familiar with playing without Ivan Toney. He was suspended during the first half of the season for violating FA betting rules. Even though the English player was recently injured, Brentford's team continued to play flawlessly at Kenilworth Road.

Wissa and Mbeumo worked very well together in the offensive line, as if they could read each other's thoughts. Lewis-Potter also demonstrated that he is a valuable asset.

During the match, Wissa managed to score two excellent goals, bringing his tally to double figures for the season. The last time he achieved this was back in 2020-21 while playing for Lorient in France. In addition, Mbeumo came close to scoring as well, but unfortunately, his shot hit the crossbar.

Lewis-Potter gave the opposing team trouble in the first half as he made attempts to score. Goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski had to make a save to prevent a goal, and another shot from Lewis-Potter was blocked by defender Teden Mengi’s head and went out of bounds.

The competition came to a close shortly after the 60-minute mark when Pinnock and Lewis-Potter each scored within two minutes of one another. Brentford also exhibited their depth by finishing strong with a goal by Schade in the later stages of the game.

The Bees have not scored five goals in a league game since they defeated Leeds 5-2 in September 2022; this marks the first time they have accomplished this feat.

Brentford only has 12 more points to earn this season. Currently, they are 10 points ahead of the bottom three teams. Because of this, Brentford can now feel more secure and begin planning for the next season of Premier League football. They have gone five games without a loss, making their position even stronger.
