How Paul Mescal, Andrew Scott And Joe Alwyn May Have Inspired Taylor Swift's 'TTPD'

The newest album by Taylor Swift, titled The Tortured Poet's Department, was just released today (April 19). We are already trying to figure out the inspiration behind each of the songs. Surprisingly, it's possible that some well-known British actors could have contributed to the album's title.

During a Variety interview in December 2022, Mescal and Alwyn, who used to date Swift, shared that Scott initiated a WhatsApp conversation with all three of them and labeled it as the 'Tortured Man Club,' as they had all acted in various Sally Rooney book adaptations. Mescal appeared in Normal People (2020), Alwyn in Conversations With Friends (2022), and Scott in Normal People Confessions (2020).

While it's unclear if the group chat discusses anything related to Swift, we highly doubt it. Mescal revealed that Scott is a daily fixture in the chat. The actor quipped that he's probably the only one talking in it, to which Alwyn quipped that he's likely just sending himself good morning messages.

There is also a belief that Swift's 11th album might contain songs referring to her past relationship with Alwyn that lasted for six years before coming to a close in April 2023. As it is widely known, Swift loves to leave hidden messages in her music and this album will be no exception. She may include one or two 'easter eggs' for her fans to decipher.

Let's begin with the fifth track named 'So Long London.' This particular piece seems to have a lot in common with Midnight's 'You're Losing Me' and touches upon the topic of a past romantic relationship with a London-based ex (cough, cough, Alwyn?).

Swift expresses her fear in the third stanza, singing about how her friends warned her that it wasn't okay to be anxious. She compares the feeling of being in a new romance to breathing rare air, and in uncertain moments, this sensation intensifies. These lines seem to reference her brief relationship with Matt Healy in May 2023, as well as her experiences with Alwyn.

In other parts of the song, Swift still seems to express her doubts about Alwyn's affection towards her. She asks, "You promised that you loved me, but how could I tell? I was left waiting for evidence, feeling utterly hopeless." She also mentions the person's melancholy, symbolized by the color blue which she often associates with sadness in her lyrics, as a hindrance to their relationship.

The song "LOML" from the album is quite melancholic. Swift reveals that her ex-partner had referred to her as the love of his life, and she reciprocates this sentiment. However, she concludes the song by referring to him as the one she lost forever.

Ad - Keep Scrolling for More The term 'reinventing oneself' is a popular concept in the self-help industry. It often refers to the process of making a significant change in one's life and career by taking bold steps towards a new direction. In today's rapidly changing world, adapting to changes and staying relevant is important for achieving success. Reinvention can take many forms, such as changing careers, starting a business, or even relocating to a new city. However, it is not an easy journey to embark on; it requires a willingness to let go of the familiar and venture into unknown territory. This process may also entail a great deal of self-reflection and personal growth. There are numerous examples of individuals who have successfully reinvented themselves. Oprah Winfrey, for instance, began her career as a news anchor, but through hard work and determination, she went on to become one of the most influential media personalities in the world. Similarly, J.K. Rowling went from being a single mother on welfare to becoming one of the most successful authors of all time. Reinvention can be a scary prospect, but it can also be highly rewarding. By taking risks and embracing change, individuals can discover new passions, achieve new heights, and ultimately, live a more fulfilling life. So, if you're feeling stuck in a rut, it might be time to consider reinventing yourself!
