It was reported on Monday, April 22nd, that Blethyn, who is 78 years old, will be exiting the show, resulting in its conclusion after the airing of its 14th season later this year.

It has been delightful to work on Vera since the start and I am feeling melancholy about bidding farewell. Nevertheless, I am extremely pleased with what we have accomplished during the past 14 years," stated Blethyn.

I will always feel immense gratitude towards the amazing Ann Cleeves, who brought Vera to life, and Elaine Collins, who chose me to play the character. The producers, talented cast, and hardworking crew have been absolutely fantastic, and although I will miss them dearly, I will always remember the incredible talent, laughter, companionship, and kindness that we shared together. I will also forever appreciate the friendship of the North East locals and our fans worldwide.

"From the depths of my heart, I extend my gratitude," Blethyn expressed.
