The ruler of Denmark has declared her relinquishment of the throne during her customary address on New Year's Eve.

On January 14th, Crown Prince Frederik will take over the reign from Queen Margrethe II, exactly 52 years after she became queen after her father, King Frederik IX, passed away in 1972.

The monarch of Europe who has been in her position for the longest amount of time is the Queen, who is 83 years old. She is renowned for her love of dogs, as well as her talent in creating illustrations and interest in fashion.

During her speech on TV, she clarified that her choice was influenced by the surgery she had in February.

The New Year's speech by Queen Margrethe II involved her declaration of abdication.

The next ruler of Denmark will be Crown Prince Frederik, who currently holds the title of Danish Crown Prince. He will take over from Queen Margrethe II, who is currently the reigning monarch. Crown Princess Mary, who is also part of the Danish monarchy, was also in attendance.

She expressed that the surgery prompted her to ponder about what lies ahead - if the moment had arrived to hand over the obligation to the upcoming generation.

I have made a choice that the present moment is suitable. On the 14th of January in the year 2024- which is 52 years following my succession to the throne after my dear father- I will retire from my position as the queen of Denmark.

The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, expressed her gratitude towards the monarch by sincerely thanking her for all the hard work and devotion she has put into the Kingdom throughout her entire life.

Queen Margrethe II was accompanied by her late spouse, Prince Consort Henrik, who passed away in 2018.
