Denmark’s Queen Margrethe appears alongside son and daughter-in-law after surprise abdication

Denmark Queen Margrethe

The Danish royal family recently gathered together at a reception for diplomats in Copenhagen, putting on a show of togetherness amidst rumors swirling around the internet regarding a possible affair by the Crown Prince.

Following Queen Margrethe II's unexpected abdication on New Year's Eve, the Danish royal family arranged a gathering at Christiansborg Palace for a reception.

During the event in Copenhagen on Wednesday, the Queen was accompanied by her son and successor, Crown Prince Frederik, and his spouse, Crown Princess Mary, while she welcomed the diplomatic corps.

The upcoming event of Crown Prince Frederik taking over the throne on January 14th is being planned, and his wife will be there with him. This occasion marks a historic moment, as his mother is stepping down from her position as the Danish monarch, the first time this has happened in 500 years.

During the customary New Year's Eve speech, Queen Margrethe II made a sudden announcement about her decision to step down from the throne and relinquish her royal duties. This announcement was televised live to the public.

It is believed that the outgoing king of Denmark has a liking towards the Princess who is 51 years old.

According to a royal specialist from Denmark, the reason why the Queen stepped down from her position might have been an effort to rescue her son's marital relationship which was in the spotlight due to the speculations of his infidelity with a Mexican female actor.

The magazine called Lecturas shared pictures of the Prince walking around Madrid with Genoveva Casanova in November. They said that the photographs proved that he had gone to Ms Casanova's apartment the morning after their supposed dinner date.

Ms Casanova, aged 47 and known for her appearances on reality TV shows, has refuted any claims of a romantic involvement with Crown Prince Frederik.

There have been reports in the media regarding the Danish royal family, but they have not given any statements or comments on the matter.
