Leverkusen extend Bundesliga lead and set 33-game unbeaten record

On Friday, Bayer Leverkusen emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 against Mainz. This win has taken them 11 points ahead of the other teams in the league and granted them a new achievement as the first Bundesliga club to have an unbeaten streak of 33 games across all competitions.

The team leading the Bundesliga scored first with an amazing shot by Granit Xhaka from 20 yards away in the third minute of the game. However, their lead didn't last for long when Dominik Kohr headed the ball into the net just five minutes later, equalizing the score for Mainz.

Possession was with Leverkusen, however, Mainz's goalkeeper Robin Zentner performed a series of impressive saves in the first half to keep their team in the game. Later, in the 68th minute, Zentner allowed a weak shot from Robert Andrich to slip through his hands, which led to the hosts regaining the lead.

During the match, Jessic Ngankam from Mainz committed a foul on Xhaka, which resulted in his dismissal leaving his team with only 10 players on the field. Xabi Alonso's team managed to surpass Bayern Munich's earlier record of 32 undefeated games and they currently have a total of 61 points. While Bayern Munich, who are in second place with 50 points, are scheduled to play against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
