Bomb threat prompts evacuation of British Airways flight to London
According to the Daily Mail, the plane was scheduled to depart for the country's capital at 8:50 PM. However, due to a bomb threat, the passengers had to evacuate the aircraft.
The newspaper was informed by a representative of the Bermuda Police Service that the airport security conducted a search on the airport building and the surrounding areas, causing the closure of nearby roads for vehicles.
He described the situation by saying that the authorities at LF Wade International Airport were informed about a possible bomb threat through an email. The police department was immediately notified of this situation.
The employees also let us know that protocols for landing in emergency situations were put into action at the airport.
He stated that after it was confirmed that the airport was safe, the normal traffic flow was resumed.
All the passengers were declared to be unharmed and the establishment was afterward declared secure.
A representative for British Airways said to the Standard: "Ensuring the wellbeing of our passengers and staff is our topmost concern and we adhered to our regular protocols when removing them from the plane."
"Our staff is taking good care of our clients and providing assistance to the team to ensure they depart as soon as practicable."
There was a delay in the flight that lasted until the next morning, and the customers were given support in figuring out how to receive compensation for their accommodations, food, and transportation during the delay.
The plane was scheduled to take off from Bermuda again on Monday evening.
The Bermuda Police Service has been asked for a statement by The Standard.
