The local boxing club aims to collect £70,000 for the construction of a fresh workout center, which was authorized with planning permission.

For a period of two years, the York Masters Boxing Club (YMBC) has been helping individuals who are struggling with addiction, homelessness, and various other challenges to participate in boxing activities in makeshift locations across York.

However, now that the plans for constructing the gym at New Earswick Sports Club have been sanctioned by the City of York Council, the objective is to gather the resources for establishing a permanent base.

According to Charlie Malarkey, who is a member of YMBC, they used to have to utilize churches and locations such as public halls for their boxing sessions. Therefore, they are thrilled to have a gym that was specifically constructed for their purposes.

A fresh building with only one level will be established to provide fitness facilities for individuals who have been going through mental and physical health disorders. Moreover, it will cater to those who struggle with alcohol or drug addictions.

According to Mr. Malarkey, when people go to the gym, they can use it as a chance to learn and get inspired by hearing the experiences of those who have gone through similar struggles.

Moreover, it serves as a way to divert individuals' attention from their issues while creating a sense of organization, fostering self-assurance, and lessening loneliness.

According to him, the organization has collected £30,000 so far, but they must gather the remaining amount by September.

He mentioned that there are generous individuals who are ready to volunteer, but the materials required for the task are costly in nature.

There will be a charitable boxing event happening at the New Earswick Sports Club on the 30th of June. Money will be raised for a good cause.
