According to the news from the nearby media, Gold has been fighting cancer for two years and got information recently that the therapy was ineffective. KSL-TV declared that earlier, Gold has created a list of things he desires to achieve before his death. Among those goals was a wish to meet with Dolly Parton.

"I appreciate your message expressing the desire to speak with me. It brings me joy that we were able to share a relationship during our time in this world," stated Parton. "My goal has always been to bring happiness through my music, actions, and words. It brings me happiness to know that I have impacted your life in some shape or form."

"You have been an immense support, particularly in the last couple of years," he replied.
