Wrexham has achieved an outstanding victory by securing the Gold award in this year's 'Wales in Bloom' competition.

This summer, the county borough really stepped up by showcasing an unforgettable exhibition for the judges.

The competition's motto, "Supporting Communities to Thrive," promotes the idea of assisting each other to enhance our neighborhood environment.

In the city center and nearby villages, community members and local officials joined forces to create flower beds, spread wildflowers, and display their gardening skills.

During their visit, the judges started at Coedpoeth to check out a garden featuring natural wildlife. After that, they went to the renovated Pentrebychan Nursery to view the new polytunnels that are enhancing the council's efforts in sustainable gardening.

Next, we headed to Bradley, where locals displayed their community and formal gardens. We also visited the FCC Recycling Centre to discuss recycling rates and various environmental initiatives.

At the Erlas Walled Garden, judges were welcomed by both users and volunteers for a tour of the facility. Meanwhile, the gardening club at Rhosnesni High School proudly displayed their gardening skills with stunning vegetable and sensory gardens.

While visiting the City Centre, the judges had discussions with Ian Bancroft, the Chief Executive of Wrexham Council, along with Leader Cllr Mark Pritchard, Deputy Leader David Bithell, and Wrexham Mayor Cllr Beryl Blackmore.

The tour concluded at Tŷ Pawb, where the judges interacted with a group from Wrexham Litter Pickers, along with council trainees and additional members of the Environment team.

The judges shared their thoughts, saying: “We were extremely delighted to witness and learn about the wide variety of volunteering options available that encourage local residents to participate in the upkeep of their community green spaces.”

Wrexham's dedication to being environmentally responsible is well highlighted in your portfolio. Great job!

The recycling figures for Wrexham shared by FCC Environment are truly remarkable. It was great to learn about the various events being planned to motivate both residents and businesses in Wrexham to recycle more.

"It was great to connect with your litter-picking volunteers and learn about the significant amounts of trash they regularly gather."

“We're thrilled to present Wrexham in Bloom with a GOLD award and the City Category Award for the 2024 Wales in Bloom competition. Huge congratulations! Llongyfarchiadau lu!”

Speaking about the Gold award, Cllr Nigel Williams, the Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, expressed his excitement: “It’s fantastic that, for the second consecutive year, our collective efforts across the county have been recognized with a gold award from Wales in Bloom.”

After securing a gold medal last year, we received an invitation to represent Wales at the Britain in Bloom competition, where we will be competing against London and Dundee.

“We’ll find out the results of that competition soon, but for now, it’s wonderful to see the efforts of the staff and volunteers pay off.”
